Diplomat Magnum

They let me test it out, and sure it writes smoothly but so does my diplomat magnum. It’s just so pretty and exactly what I wanted that I decided you know what, today’s the day, and I got it. So not that it doesn’t write beautifully, but there’s definitely a significant margin of valuing form over function but that’s what I wanted.

I would recommend PenBBS pens (in your budget), Moonman C1, Jinhao 100, Faber-Castell Essentio, Diplomat Magnum or TWSBI Eco/ Swipe. The latter 2 brands use Jowo nibs which are very smooth nibs and I would consider them an industry benchmark. Diplomat Magnum's Jowo nib has a bit of springiness which is extraordinary as you usually find them in gold nibs. PenBBS and Moonman have some really interesting acrylic pens with great build quality and smooth nibs.

Most - Diplomat Magnum. I'd gotten a well-loved one in F via r/penswap, and that nib was so excellent that I figured I'd try a medium. Well, that medium ended up being my first experience of a brand new pen that refused to write properly - skips like crazy, with seemingly no rhyme or reason, even with the tines aligned. I suspect baby's bottom, but the prospect of spending so much time and energy trying to fix the blasted thing is just soul-wearying, especially for such a fairly cheap pen.
