Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

eBags Mother Lode Travel Backpack

(1/1)

Comfort-wise, this bag is not as comfortable as a true backpacking backpack, but I don't think its reasonable to expect that and to have the flexibility this bag provides as a piece of true luggage. It's a trade off, and well worth it. Having hands free on a long trip was a godsend, and the lack of retractable handle-associated hardware really frees up a lot of space inside the bag, in comparison to a roll-aboard style carry-on. Imagine navigating international airports with two little ones and the associated toileting/diapering/eating

Hiking

Atlas Packs Athlete

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

Compartment

Carry-on

eBags Mother Lode Travel Backpack

(1/3)

I got the Mother Lode Travel one a few years back and absolutely love it. It was the largest carry-on available, lightweight, strong, has lots of compartments, and doesn't look like a tourist's luggage -- so it's all win for me.

Size

eBags Mother Lode Travel Backpack

(1/2)

However, it is so large and holds so much stuff that I put everything inside and then it was so heavy I could barely wear it throughout the airport. I’m young & in shape and was seriously winded and tired after carrying this huge ridiculous backpack through the airport. May be better suited for a vacation. Too large to fit under seat on airplane

Strap

eBags Mother Lode Travel Backpack

Great customer service from ebags. One of the outside cinch straps broke the first time I used the bag. The company requested photos to verify the damage and then sent a replacement bag.
