Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

eBags TLS Mother Lode Weekender

Comfort-wise, this bag is not as comfortable as a true backpacking backpack, but I don't think its reasonable to expect that and to have the flexibility this bag provides as a piece of true luggage. It's a trade off, and well worth it. Having hands free on a long trip was a godsend, and the lack of retractable handle-associated hardware really frees up a lot of space inside the bag, in comparison to a roll-aboard style carry-on. Imagine navigating international airports with two little ones and the associated toileting/diapering/eating

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

Compartment

There were so many compartments, and I was able to use TSA locks to securely store my items in my bag. Highly recommend if you don't need a true backpacking bag. It also fits in the overhead and under seat compartments in airplanes, even when stuffed full! Side note: my entire family was jealous and is planning to buy these.

Review for the Mother Lode Jr - Very pleased with the backpack. Wanted a bag that would hold enough for a weekend but still fit the requirements for a "personal" item on airlines and the Mother Lode Jr bag works. I purposely left room so the bag could be scrunched down and it fit into the Spirit airlines personal item box. Even leaving room I was able to fit in a medium packing cube, two small packing cubes and a flat toiletry organizer

Strap

Great customer service from ebags. One of the outside cinch straps broke the first time I used the bag. The company requested photos to verify the damage and then sent a replacement bag.
