Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

Camera backpacks come in many flavors for many purposes, pretty much every manufacturer has some sort of backpack as it is a popular choice for many photographers. I’ve often steered away from most as they have lacked in three specific areas for me: comfort, storage and durability. F-Stop Gear has their Mountain Series of camera backpacks, and I’ve spent the last year and a half with one. Have my needs finally been met?

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

The pack is not fully waterproofed (rain cover sold separately), but the waves it has been hit by have not introduced any signs of moisture to the bag's innards. This is not only due to the YKK zippers on all of the main compartments, but also to the water repellant, polyurethane coated nylon on the exterior of the bag. On it’s own, the Loka is nothing more than an awesome hiking backpack - it’s the ICU that makes it an awesome camera bag. Some might question the lack of built-in camera storage, but I think this actually makes it more configurable to your needs
