Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

The Comfort FactorBetter than the fact that you can conveniently store up to 30 liters of gear in this day bag, what makes it great is that it's actually comfortable, no matter how full it is or how long you plan on hiking. Much of that is owed to how it sits on your body, thanks to a stiff yet flexible back piece on the inside and the center ventilated foam padding on the outside. In addition, a nice touch I hadn't seen before is that the main shoulder straps can be adjusted not only at the bottom but also at the top. With both sets of straps tightened to my liking, I was able to make the bag conform better to my body

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

Plenty of Pockets and StrapsOf course, the whole reason you're bringing a backpack is to tote stuff. So it's nice to have purposeful places for it all. I like this bag's three elasticized outer mesh pockets because they're great for stashing (and still seeing) water bottles and other items you want to keep at the ready. But it's cool how the ones on the sides also feature adjustable straps to cinch those items in place when you're on the move

In addition, a nice touch I hadn't seen before is that the main shoulder straps can be adjusted not only at the bottom but also at the top. With both sets of straps tightened to my liking, I was able to make the bag conform better to my body. For heavier loads, it was also nice to have the sternum and waist straps to help relieve some of the pressure from my back.
