Comfort
Atlas Packs Athlete
Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.
Hiking
Atlas Packs Athlete
I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.
Mammut Trion Spine 50 Pack - Men's
Sam Shaheen using the Mammut Trion Spine 50 Pack. After about 10 days using the pack, it looks essentially brand new on the outside, but the interior shows some wear on the lightweight lining fabric. None of the lightweight fabric plays a very important structural role in the pack, so even big rips / failures in this fabric wouldn’t render the pack unusable in the backcountry. But the contrast between the heavy outer fabric and the ultralight lining fabric strikes me as odd
Compartment
Mammut Trion Spine 50 Pack - Men's
It has a zip pocket on the brain, a small zip pocket on the interior (with a key clip), a zip pocket on the left hip, and a larger (~50 cm x 25 cm) zip pocket that is on the inside panel of the exterior-access U-zip.Mammut Trion Spine 50 — U-Zip & Internal PocketsAccess to the Trion Spine 50’s main compartment is quite easy with a large cinch-top opening and a huge U-zip on the front that gives access to the full inside of the pack and the large internal zip pocket. I really appreciate the big U-zip. A lot of packs in this category have a side zip, which gives decent access to one side of the pack
Carry-on
Size
Mammut Trion Spine 50 Pack - Men's
-It is bulky/heavy, (particularly shoulder and hip straps), I understand it's certainly not designed/marketed for true alpinists/climbers as we prioritize “fast and light”, but there are some features here(spine tech, full zipper access, durability, and Cool-factor, that I believe could really catch on, if lightened up and re-sized just a bit. Do it do it do it, please.🙂
Strap
Mammut Trion Spine 50 Pack - Men's
Straps, and AttachmentsThe Trion Spine 50 has a pretty standard feature set when it comes to straps and accessory attachments. The Trion Spine 50 has two compression straps on each side that double as A-frame ski carry or vertical snowboard carry. There are also two different ways to attach ice tools / axes — a traditional loop and a more modern internal sleeve / buckle system that accommodates for more radically shaped tools. The pack also has small velcro straps to secure the handles of the tools, and both tool attachments work as expected
