Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack

(1/1)

My backpacking pack is an REI Flash 60, but I'd strongly suggest going into REI or somewhere like that and trying on bags with weight in them. They all fit SO differently. I hadn't planned to get the Flash, but after trying on a bunch, that one was the one that felt the best for me. If you're a beginner backpacker, you're probably hiking with some heavy and/or bulky gear, so it's even more important to get a comfortable pack that fits you properly (they'll measure you at the store)

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

Compartment

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack

(1/1)

For flights, as “personal item” stowed under seat in front in economy, this has a better volume and extra useful features like the flap lid and exterior mesh pockets compared with the Flash 18...but the Flash 18 is a lot narrower and I can stick a foot on either side with the Flash 18 but not the Flash 22, which tends to hog all the under seat space

Carry-on

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack

(1/1)

Cleverly designed little travel pack that weighs next to nothing but has plenty of room for all of your essentials. Love the design and the easy drawstring opening, it has a slot for water and plenty of room on the inside or side pockets for a light pack of essentials.

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack

I bought it for a great price but mostly for the size and weight. I bought it for my husband but I think I’ll keep it.

Strap

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack

(1/1)

- were the shoulder straps OK for the loaded pack as they seem very minimal and might dig into your shoulders if carrying for longer than a short distance?
