Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Pack - Women's

(The rule of thumb for packing is to keep the heaviest items closest to your body to avoid weight offset, or simpler terms balance and comfort)

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Pack - Women's

(1/3)

I’ve used a Rei Ruckpack 40 for 2 months of INTL travel, including 2 weeks trekking to Mt. Everest. While I’m a semi-ultralight hiker back home (different pack), the Ruckpack 40 was fine for being about + 1.75lbs more than my actual backpacking pack (Granite Gear Crown 2 60L)

Carry-on

REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Pack - Women's

(1/2)

Before we dive in, here are some things you should know. With our research we found that 40 Liters is the sweet spot for minimalist international travel. Sticking between 40 and 50 linear inches will fit into just about every international airline carry on limits. Be mindful of weight, as this is often a more important factor for carry on bags versus dimensions

If your pack is fairly empty and you want to compress it down a bit, they’ll get the job done.

Strap

REI Co-op Ruckpack 40 Pack - Women's

(1/2)

As I mentioned earlier, the straps on the women’s backpack are slightly thicker. Each shoulder strap on both backpacks is slightly curved into an S shape. They’re lightly padded and they feature a sternum strap with a plastic buckle. One neat detail that you’ll love is that this buckle doubles as a whistle! What a great way of reaching out to your friends, wherever you’re located
