Comfort

Atlas Packs Athlete

(1/2)

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

Great fitting pack, really comfortable. Easy access to all my stuff, works great with my 3 litter water bladder. Fully adjustable for small to large loads. I love this pack

Hiking

Atlas Packs Athlete

I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack.

REI Co-op Traverse 35 Pack Men's

I thought I’d give this a shot at least and return if needed. I’m keeping this one. My wife and I do a lot of 3 day weekend hikes. This is perfect for that, but if you pair down you could definitely do longer stretches

Compartment

REI Co-op Traverse 35 Pack Men's

(1/1)

It’s sturdy, comfortable, feels and looks like high quality, plenty of compartments. Yeah, the waist belt pockets are on the small side but I can still fit my iPhone and a snack. Used the rain cover and it was easy to grab and did the job. I have no hesitation recommending this one

Carry-on

REI Co-op Traverse 35 Pack Men's

(1/1)

My main problems with the pack are weight--2 lb packs are available in this size, but of course there is a durability trade off; and the sternal strap, which slides up and down a track on the shoulder straps, keeps winding up around my throat. The strap is also flimsy, which I guess that's good if it's across my throat. The hip belt slides down on my hips but that may be my anatomy as my pants do the same thing.

Size

REI Co-op Traverse 35 Pack Men's

I would say this pack is a lot larger than needed for a day hike, except in winter, but it's not designed to carry skis.

Strap

REI Co-op Traverse 35 Pack Men's

I am a big guy and the hip belt and other straps are much more comfortable than other prominent brands. I really love this pack. It's the best hiking gear I have ever owned. I love it!
