I also purchased a Capture Clip from Peak Designs which allows you to fix the camera to the shoulder strap in place while hiking – a great addition to this pack. 

 A small hole developed in one of the side waterbottle pockets but I can take resposibility for that when I shoved the tip of my trekking pole in there. 

Important: Choose the Adventure or Athlete hip belt – otherwise you will have literally no padding on your hips. I don’t recommend using the bag without a hipbelt either. The Adventure belt is more comfortable as it provides two layers of foam padding and a wider webbing and buckle – it’s also bigger and bulkier.

Even with the camera compartment loaded the back pannel is comfy and I never feel any of the gear inside digging into my back.

 It goes all the way down in the front here, so you reach all the way down into the front of the bag. Right here, there's my hand going all the way in some more dry dry packs, so you can stuff clothes and things all the way down there. It'S got a little laptop sleeve right here in the front it might be hard to see, but you can slide your laptop in there and it sits against the cube, so it stays stays flat and it doesn't kind of jostle around and then here's the frame. So there's the steel frame i was talking about - and this is the large frame and you'll see it goes to here

 You can see that so there's the sizing for the large frame there's the sizing for the medium frame. Now it will fit under uh under an airline seat as it is in the large frame and will also fit in the overhead. You can just put the medium frame in if you want it to be even a little bit smaller [ Applause ] additional pouch on the inside. It goes to there additional molle webbing and then a nice little spot for your name here, more straps on the inside

 There are also spots here to put in a smaller frame a medium frame. I think this is the large frame you can retrofit this pack to be a medium frame, and the medium frame goes right right here. You can see that so there's the sizing for the large frame there's the sizing for the medium frame. Now it will fit under uh under an airline seat as it is in the large frame and will also fit in the overhead

 We'Ve got this nice mesh here, but then there's also some ribs. That kind of raise that you know to allow for some more airflow, which i think is really nice, these pockets, which you can pop out [ Applause ] and have extra little pockets here that you can put lenses in things like that. I mentioned lens pouches earlier. In fact, let me grab one of these, so i own several of these pouches, which are the think tank pouches

 Is this bag just cinches down into a much smaller footprint, because there's a lot of bags out there? It'S a 40 60 liter pack, whatever it is, you might only have 15 or 20 liters in the bag or maybe only you're, only using a quarter of its carry capacity, but the footprint of the bag or main is the same so that be able to have A pack that can really kind of switch squish down into a smaller footprint to me is everything, that's a very, very good quality, so just to jump right into it. Of course, this is the the yellow version. This is the also the tall version it comes in a regular size and I'm 6 foot 2, so that the tall version works perfect for me and just right on the outside, you have these straps up here, so you can strap really any additional items. You would like to it there's also a pocket whoops right here on the front

 Alice is a great job with the the comfortable comfort ability of their harness system and their waist belt, and you might be noticing something no words the waist belt with this. What'S what is fantastic Atlas gives you the option that you can take it on or off. It'S up to you and they make great West waist belts very meaty. There'S a lot of material here, a lot of a lot of substance and durability, so they're very good at the waist belts

 I just want to talk about this real quick on the the back panel. It'S kind of got like a rib design and it is very comfortable and it's got like kind of exaggerated lumbar area right here, which makes carrying this bag very comfortable and in the waist belt, actually tucks right back in here. Let me actually show you on the other bag, so they sent me to. This is a athlete pack and black, but what's different is this one is the regular version

Here goes all the way to the bottom: a couple zipper pockets here you could put SD cards or batteries or remote shutters or whatever you like there and that's the the camera compartment. Walked into the REI store and right away this pack caught my eyes. As an avoid backpacker I look for packs that will accommodate the weight of all my supplies not placing much strain on my back. When I'm at the university the same needs to be done. I carry my laptop,  nerdy books, and a mix of stuff I probably don't need but can't help bring

Comfort and Beautiful Design

Picked this up for cycle commuting without much research but it's been a great bag. It has a pocket for a U-lock and even (barely) fits the small Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit. Holds my laptop in a separate compartment with a large main compartment for work clothes and a lunch. It's a very sleek design which means that all pockets expand inward and not outward so don't expect to stuff it full and still be able to fit a water bottle or two in the external pockets

 It’s usually easier to grab the laptop right out of this pocket, making the handle a bit unnecessary. That said, we really like the concept—we just didn’t use it much in our testing.

The Kaban uses some nice Nifco strap adjusters, however, there are no elastic loops to manage excess straps.

For everyday carry between home and work or keeping a light load as you travel, it’s great to have a bag that looks great and functions smoothly. The North Face Kaban is a 26-liter daypack that offers both—a slick, minimal look and some smart features, too.

 The pocket opens up horseshoe style, and it goes down about one-third of the bag. This pocket gives a little suspension to your laptop, but not quite enough to be considered a false bottom—so if you drop your bag, that laptop is hitting the ground, too.

The North Face Kaban Backpack Review | Pack Hacker

I travel and hike a lot so I wanted a backpack to hold majority of my electronics (GoPro, portable charger, laptop, camera, etc.) All I can is this backpack is roomy and this is only the standard size! I just went snowboarding at Mammoth and this backpack was so useful. I would definitely recommend buying a waterproof cover for this backpack regardless of it being waterproof BECAUSE you should take care of this backpack and prevent it from getting scratches :)

* Very comfy straps and backpiece. No hiding of shoulder straps, but the chest strap can hide away.

* 26L, large bucket opening, half clamshell 2nd pocket, water bottle holders on both sides and a 3rd external pocket for quick access.

My initial post (and quest for a business/travel one bag solution) can be seen below.

I've gone way down the rabbit hole of purchasing/returning/trialing a bunch of different backpacks that are under $150 (mostly $100 or less).  I still haven't been able to find the perfect match and wanted to reach back out to you wonderful folks for more suggestions and support in narrowing down this search even further.  I think I've narrowed down my criteria even moreso than initially.

Here's what I've already tried and my general thoughts (it's a long list, peeps):

*Samsonite Modern Utility Travel Backpack* \- My currently daily driver that I'm testing.  I mostly like this....and it has almost everything I need...but it's a bit heavy...and I can't fit as much in its clamshell opening.  

*Osprey Porter 30* \- I ALMOST love this bag...but those straight jacket compression straps are super inconvenient for business use.  I'm in and out of my bag every day while meeting with clients reaching for cables/cordsets/etc.  The non-removable straps of the Osprey Porter 30 make getting in/out of the bag very difficult.  

*eBags Pro Slim Weekender* \- This bag was too large.

*eBags Citylink Travel* \- I wanted to like this bag more, but it's just got too much going on.  Almost too much organization...and everything feels a bit too plasticky - especially the zippers.  Plus, there are compression straps that get in the way of the side zippers.  

*SwissGear Getaway Weekend* \- I found it too small to pack more than a days worth of clothes in it.  And, not that I'm surprised considering it's $50 price tag, but it definitely feels more cheaply made and like it won't last long-term.

*Matein Travel Backpack* \- Too large.  Too many straps.

*Bange Travel Backpack* \- Too many straps.  Feels way too cheap.  And it came folded in half and never regained its shape.

*Osprey Daylite Plus 26+6* \- I actually liked this one a lot because of its compact form...but it has terrible front pocket organization - and no separate laptop compartment area.  Otherwise, not bad.  It can fit quite a bit of stuff.

Whew.  That was a mouthful.  I've probably left off a bag or two, but those are the main ones I've trialed...and I'm still on the search for my optimal one bag solution.

So, here's my adjusted criteria now:

**Must Haves**

\- At least 25 liter capacity.  I don't want to get too large a pack because it needs to be an EDC, but it needs to be at least 25 liters to fit a few days of clothes (and gym items).

\- Compact form factor that is close-ish to a standard backpack and can be considered as a "personal item" on certain airlines.  Maybe the ability to expand and compress would be great so that I can slim it down when mainly using it as a business laptop EDC, but then being able to expand it when needing to use it for extended overnight stays.  I definitely don't want a larger pack that stays large (mainly in terms of depth) even when I only need it for simple use cases.

\- Clamshell opening - this gives me the most flexibility in case I want to use packing cubes or not and also allows me to pack easier, see everything at once, and even just open my bag and leave it opened at my hotel room.  I typically pack a pair of pants (khakis), 2 polo shirts, undershirt, boxers, socks, and workout clothes (shoes, shorts, shirt).  I'm actually slightly open to a standard opening instead of a clamshell...if everything else checks the boxes...but prefer clamshell if possible.

\- Front Pocket Organization and Easy Access - I will mainly use this as a business laptop backpack where I will occasionally pack for shorter business trips 2-3 days. For the most part, I need easy access to cables, cords, other hardware items when visiting clients (I'm a sales engineer). Also, easy access to the front pockets and laptop compartment is a must.  I've seen and tried out a pack or two with non-removable front straps that make easy access difficult.  

\- Reasonably Durable - I take this backpack on/off multiple times a day at a variety of random environments (outdoors, indoors, in dirty manufacturing plants, in standard offices, etc.).  It doesn't have to be military-grade durable like the GoRucks of the world, but just something that can handle non-office type environments.

\- Quality Zippers - I will be opening/closing the zippers a lot throughout a day.

\- Padded Straps and Back - Nothing crazy, but just enough to be comfortable when wearing for hours at a time.

**Nice to Haves**

\- Under $200.  I initially was looking for something under $100, but I'm willing to up my spending a little if there's something that's the correct fit.

\- Amazon Availability - This is the easiest way for me to try stuff out/send it back.  I'm open to other retail outlets, but they have to have a no-frills/no hassle return policy.  I really won't know if I've found the "right" bag until I get it in my hands and try it out.

\- Compression Straps - I'm open to this, but they cannot get in the way of accessing zippers and if they were removable/hidable, then that would be ideal.  I don't like bags that have a bunch of cords/straps hanging off them.  I guess it's fine if you're going hiking or going to be wearing the bag for hours/days on end, but I won't be doing that.  It'll mainly be worn for half hour periods during work days and maybe an hour or so during travel days.

\- Lightweight - As lightweight as possible would be preferred because I will be mainly using this with a laptop and a few other hardware items.  The Samsonite Modern Utility Travel backpack I use now is good, but it isn't the lightest in the world.  And it isn't the most comfortable.  I could see it being a hassle carrying it on my back when filled up with items.

\- Modern looking - Not a must, but it would be nice.  I like the look of the Bellroy Transit and the Knack Series of bags.

\- Side Handle - I doubt I'll use it in "briefcase" mode often, but this would be a nice value add feature.

\- Stowable Straps - This kind of goes in line with the point above.  If I'm carrying it as a "carry on" style bag or as a briefcase, then it'd be nice to tuck away the straps.  Some bags have this option as standard...and some don't.  Seems hit or miss.

\- Waterproof - I doubt I'll be using this to hike or in any scenario where I'll be traveling outside in inclement weather, but it'd be nice to have.

\- Lifetime Warranty - Every bag I've owned for work (mostly cheaper bags) have never last more than a few years before having zipper issues or getting a hole in them.  A lifetime warranty would give me a peace of mind.

So, there you have it.  A tremendously long and overly detailed post.  I'm still on the search for my ideal one-size-fits-all type bag, but I am opening the search and suggestions back up to the Reddit community for additional input. 

Help me out, Peeps!  I feel like I'm deep in the weeds...and need some practical input and suggestions from folks who've found their precious.

Still on the Hunt for a Business-First EDC with a Clamshell Opening for 2-3 Nights Travel

Ideally an EDC bag that is not too small but not too big either (26l is nice),water resistant, with a laptop compartment, a water bottle holder on one side, and a full length opening of the main pocket (what the Kaban is missing I think)

 Also, having a look at the back of the bag, this molded back panel here got this flex event technology from North Face in the back. So basically, what that does is let the air come between your back and the pack. Actually, it stops your back from getting super sweaty, so that's quite a nice feature that they've got on this pack. Also, these straps using the same material that high density, compress molded foam here so they're, really good quality

 Have a look: it's just one big empty, empty storage component. There yeah there's really no other internal organization here, but what's really good to see is you do have this huge access really easy to see everything that's in your bag, yeah? That makes it super easy to pack and unpack your bag access, your stuff, the laptop storage. We also have this laptop and part separated from the main compartment here. It is here yeah

 So if you, if you're left with a little bit bigger than a 15-inch MacBook Pro, that's not going to be a problem at all. When the laptops in there nice and snug it actually only comes to about this far down on the pack, so you do have about two three inches off the ground. So if you do happen to drop your bag, then you do have a little bit of space. There so I'm just gon na hit your laptop and damage it

 We do have more of that same technology like the little phone pocket at the front. Where you see you can see this you've got this little elasticated grab handle system which allows it easily and quickly get your laptop by the way. This is a 15-inch MacBook Pro. So if I just stick that in there, you can see how much space we've got at the top still got a bit more
