Comfort

Corsair HS80

(1/2)

I think the earpads are a downgrade from the wired version, but aside from that it's been like my ideal headset. It's still comfy, but not as comfy as the wired Alphas. Replaceable earpads like Wicked cushions worked and fit for me and are a big improvement over the default. The headband extension is about the same as the wired Alphas

Turtle Beach Recon 50X/Recon 50P

I wore them for about 3 hours with no issues as far as the ear comfort was concerned. The headband is adjustable, though I wish it had 2-3 more clicks in the upsizing. I found that it was a snug fit on my head but works great for my teen. The headband gets a little uncomfortable with extended play for me

Turtle Beach Recon 50X/Recon 50P

They also don't fit well on all listeners, making them a bit uncomfortable and poorly isolating. Note that we tested the Xbox One variant of this headset, but we expect similar results for the Recon 50P PS4 variant.

Sound Quality

Corsair HS80

(1/3)

Corsair impressed me last year with its $150 HS75 XB Wireless, an Xbox-exclusive wireless headset that looked and felt more like a high-end set of headphones than a gaming accessory. They also had great sound quality and an easy-to-learn button layout with the right amount of features. It wasn’t necessarily a flaw that they only worked with Xbox consoles, but no one likes to be excluded. The company has now released the HS80 RGB Wireless for the same $150 price with PlayStation compatibility, but these aren’t quite the successor that I was expecting or hoping for

I've had crisper audio with other headsets, granted they are $10-$20 more. Overall, worth the money if you aren't picky.

Durability

Corsair HS80

I love my Razer Nari for it and I detest Razer devices (especially mice) and software. Honestly I'm bouncing between a few old ones seeing which feels the best. As for which: Astro A40TR (as I recently found my old pair and they still work 5 years later), Razer Nari (for the flex band and earcups), and the Virtuoso for it's connectivity to my RGB setup. Two of those are wireless because I prefer that, however I like the mixamp from Astro enough to forego that

Turtle Beach Recon 50X/Recon 50P

Was a gift for my lil brother, he specifically picked this one which I knew would not last at all especially with daily use but he enjoyed it while it lasted. I got warranty on it but unfortunately it only covered factory defects not accidentals because the value of it was not high enough to choose that kind of warranty which I knew before hand (I called and try to get better warranty but that’s what I was told) I personally could’ve gotten it replaced because it was a factory problem at first but then it just gradually went downhill I mean hey boys are not as careful with their things especially in the mist of playing video games so I just saved the hassle of going through the same thing and bought him a different brand. Overall it’s a good headphone but longevity is not long term. Wouldn’t recommend for younger children as accidents do happen

Noise Cancellation

Turtle Beach Recon 50X/Recon 50P

(1/1)

I prefer a slight sidetone if the headset it going to be noise cancelling so I can see how loud I am talking, and this headset does not have one. The cups are also self adjusting to your head so they rest on there fine. Some of my dislikes: It has cables coming out of both earcups which I personally don't like. Many headsets are routing the sound cables through one side, so it just makes more cables to deal with

Price Point

Corsair HS80

(1/1)

I really wanted to like them, but for $150, I personally don’t think it’s worth it with all the downsides. If it was priced around $100, I might have kept them.

Turtle Beach Recon 50X/Recon 50P

At the entry level pricing for gaming headphones, these work as well as, if not better, than I had expected. Great gift for the gamer in your family.
