Evergoods says they're made to do this: go from the office to the mountains. Their bags even have shoulder strap pass thru's for a water bladder tube! But as much as i love my CHZ22, without a breathable mesh back, i'd be hard pressed to take it on a long hike. On warmer days, its definitely not been the most cooling back there.

The straps I would say are more durable than soft. They are still comfortable. If you're looking for a strong hiking/traveling pack, this is definitely worth it!

There are tons of different compartments and pockets to help keep me organized, but the thing I love the most about this bag is that the laptop compartment can be accessed from inside the bag, or from outside. Every other backpack I've owned in the past has required me to open up the entire thing in order to get my computer out. With this one, it's so easy to pop it out the side without opening up the entire thing and exposing all my contents. That's particularly useful in the airport security line
