 You need three rows for that to work out, but inside dimensions are the same about a half inch different on the height and width, and then the depth is significantly shallower and again this is a 20 liter bag. This is a 21 liter size. So that's pretty again, if you're a shorter frame again, i'm five, nine, and so the gr1 size really fits me perfectly. But this is gon na, be a great camera bag based off of its size and versatility, and it's a little bigger than the bullet 15 liter by about six liters

 I use as my quick access pocket. What I do is the zippers on the front. I try and keep them anywhere towards the top. So, on the go, if I need to open it grab what I need and close it back up, the laura mesh pocket has my electronics pouch

 Is the laptop sleeve like I said this isn't EDC and it was designed as an EDC, so it does have a laptop pocket like all garlic bags to access it. You have to flip the straps back, I'm lucky enough, where I don't need to use this as a laptop of pocket. I actually have a back frame that evenly distributes the weight of the bag. The bag empty is already close to three pounds

 This bag is between 21 and 24 liters. I personally tend to think it falls along the 24 litre and it definitely holds more than some of my 19 or 20 liter backpacks. This bag is made from a thousand D Cordura and, like all the go rock backpacks, it has the slanted front flat pocket and the line of moly at the bottom. I did get a chance to use this bag for a little while before New York and New Jersey completely shut down, as I still had to go to work

 This is not a brown paper bag. It'S actually a packing cube um. This is a packing cube. I generally take with me when I stay at my boyfriend's house, so it has a weekend, maybe a third or fourth day's worth of clothes inside that packing cube

 The bottom is flat, so i think packed out this bag will stand up on its own.  They gave one of my favorites. The radio ruck is a goruck bag. That is small. Basically, it's for small frame people - i am a short short person um, it's it's! It'S short in stature like a and normally a gr1 would be something like this i'll show you next to my bullet

 Since i don't use my wallets very much and uh, let's see so my keys in this front guy my mask because i tend to use those things and this top one i'll put my corona stuff this and this this zippers are all ykk. These are taiwanese made. Ykk zippers, i can tell you already, which is okay um, they tend to be smooth. Go rocks take a little bit to get broken in, as you can see, um like this will take a little while to get smooth, whereas something like this bullet, which is already broken in, is just very smooth, but that's okay anyway, so that's it packed out

Carry that i really like and i'll just stick it in the mesh guy on the other side and then we're rolling and zipping that up front pocket now

 Or does that matter? I don't know, let's look at the back. Actually it does we'll talk about in a minute. The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see

 The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see. Um the back panel itself, um, it's just slightly longer here, but it's basically the same thing. That does make a difference later, though, when we talk about laptops and how laptops work in here, but aside from that um that are those are the only exterior differences that you can see

This little laptop “compartment” is designed very well, and the thinking here is that you can easily slide your laptop out when you go through security. All you need to do is slide the laptop out and it will stay connected to your bag. Send it through the conveyor belt, pop the laptop back in, you’re good to go.

The main compartment of the pack opens up in a horseshoe fashion, as opposed to a full clamshell. And unfortunately, this is the compartment that we have the most issues with. 

 Sometimes it might actually be easier to just unzip this cache and remove your laptop from it, depending on how full the main compartment is. This all seems like a bit of an oversight from Tom Bihn, especially when you consider that this system is supposed to be used when going through airport security..

First of all, it’s not as large as you’d imagine because of all the other pockets inside this pack. Remember that water bottle pocket? Yeah, if you’re utilizing that you will lose a ton of space in this main compartment—which is kind of a bummer. 

Tom Bihn Synapse 25 Travel Backpack Review | Pack Hacker

I got the Tom Bihn Synapse 25 guide edition specifically for hiking as well as using as a day bag to carry my laptop. I think it's perfect but if you need more space then the 30L you're thinking about should work, although that's a big pack.

Hey, looking for a pack recommendation. Nearly 10 years ago I purchased a Camelbak Alpine Explorer and it has served me perfectly. Features that it has that I love:

\- side pockets that can each fit wide water bottles (32oz nalgenes)

\- separate bladder pocket with a strap for keeping the bladder upright

\- port through which a hydration bladder tube can exit the pack.

\- large main compartment

\- smaller compartment with mesh and zippered pockets for smaller items

\- small top pocket for glasses and other brittle items.

\- mesh front pocket that is also a sleeve (meaning I can put things into the sleeve without them falling out, as opposed to just a string that pins items to the bag but wouldn't necessarily keep them from falling out the bottom).

\- 25L - 30L of space (the alpine explorer is 27L)

I love this backpack but recently it has been falling apart beyond repair. The fabric has gotten thinner over time and hard use and has torn completely in multiple places, exposing the interior. So, I've been looking to replace it and wanted to get the exact same bag, but it turns out that this model no longer exists. At first I thought, "No big deal, I'll just find another bag that meets the same criteria." But, this has actually been kinda challenging. This bag sort of straddles the line between a hiking daypack and a daily use bag. For me this is perfect. But, most designs that I've found (osprey, camelbak, patagonia, etc.) have become more and more use-case oriented, rather than trying to bridge the gap between use cases. For instance, most daily use backpacks won't have hydration system features or mesh pockets in the front. Most hiking daypacks (that I've found) won't have a main compartment + a smaller compartment with additional organization pockets (separate from the bladder pocket).

After a bunch of searching I've settled on a Patagonia Chacabuco 30L. It very nearly meets all my critieria. Downsides: on the larger side of what I wanted, and the mesh pocket isn't nearly as much of a sleeve as I'd like. So, before pulling the trigger I figured I'd ask if anyone here knew of a pack that might meet my criteria more completely. Thanks!

I have alway used a single bag, normally carry-on. My lightbulb moment was a recognition that others didn't do this. I was going on a multi-week service trip in 1996 and was asked to have an extra max-size checkthrough  to transport project supplies. No problem

How has your travel then one-bag set-up evolved? There was a thread in another post last week where people starting listing their bags from the first bag they “one-bagged” it with to their current. I thought it would interesting to expand this topic. What was the bag you were using when the lightbulb (or volcano of frustrated emotion) lit up and made you decide to one-bag? What was the first bag you one-bagged with? What has been your evolutionary steps down to your current bag? What bag do you have eyes on next or have you reach your ideal equilibrium?

In 2010 I was in hong kong pulling a large sierra roller board suitcase behind me which at best guess was about 60-70 liters, plus another sharper image carryon sized roller bag maybe 30 liters in size, I literally slid out of my sandals and found myself barefoot in 90+ degree temps and high humidity barefoot hauling a high percentage of my own body weight. After that I still bought yet ANOTHER roller bag while in Hong Kong, this time a four wheeler carry-on size. But once I got back to the US I quickly donated my sierra and sharper image bags, and the Hong Kong roller became my one-bag from 2010-2014. In 2014 I purchased a smaller sized hard-sided four wheeler bag from Samsonite, that was my one bag until 2016, its still being used today by my bf. In 2016 I discovered the joy of traveling with a backpack, an Osprey Porter 30. It was a nice introduction to the world of backpack travel, but too big for me and had a lot of unnecessary padding. In 2017 I went to Tom Bihn synapse 25, great bag but too much built in storage. I sold it in spring 2020 and am now using the Tentree Mobius, mostly in the 16L mode but I love the clamshell and ability to expand when I want to bring camping gear with me. No particular bags on the horizon for me, they just don’t make EXACTLY what I am looking for. That’s the thing about one-bagging for 10+ years, you KNOW what you want and don’t want.

Your Evolution with One-bagging

  My only complaint is that I would love if it had a hip strap that effectively transferred weight for the days I really load it as the grocery store.

  I am sure there are other people who hate it. The only downside for me was that around town the main section was a bit too small for grocery shopping and for  trips that required formal clothing (suit), clothing to be out all day in harsh "weather" and items for work (full size laptop, etc). The extra room in the Symik30 has so far been just enough to cover me.  It's a bit big for some uses, but not so much that I feel I need two bags

So im fairly new to the onebag lifestyle but I love it. I have the evergoods cpl and chz, brown buffalo conceal, go ruck gr1 26, and recycled firefighter 24hr. I like all these bags for various reasons. But thru all these bags I've come to learn how important and covient quick access and external storage are to me which has lead me to the tom bihn synik. Initially I wasn't feelin the look (as many people have stated) but now I do and value functionally as much as look. As we're all lookin for the holy grail of bags I think this is my next best shot. Anyone else have a similar experience?? Just curious

Hi,  I don't think you can fit a 14" in the markers bag. Do you need a side bag or would you be ok with a backpack? I recently bought a tom bihn synapse 25. It's been great. I guess a bit big for your needs, but perhaps the 19 litres version will do

Hi I’ve found this community super interesting and learning about many options for bags. Currently I’m looking to replace a floppy Etsy bag with something higher quality for work. Need to carry laptop (12”), cell phones, water bottle, and often small lunch, occasionally umbrella or gym clothes (latter 2 not essential). I’m looking at Tom Bihn’s [makers bag](https://www.tombihn.com/collections/shoulder-bags/products/the-makers-bag?variant=39386571833533)and it seems perfect except that I think I could not get to my cell phone easily one handed while walking or driving. I’d really love it if it had one open exterior pocket. Any recs for me?

 So i'm glad that you can fully remove it, and this also allows you to pair with some of the more padded belts that tom bin sells on their site. If you like to have a little bit more support with your daily bags and then taking a look at the back filling so far, this has been pretty comfortable. You have a nice amount of padding here and i like that. This does have a more breathable mesh on the back paneling

 It has that kind of fishbone skeleton back paneling, so hope that that is incorporated into more of tom bin's daily bags in the future jumping into the organizational options. This is really the bread and butter of the synapse and cynic line of bags. Every time i use one of these bags, the organizational layout never ceases to amaze me in how much space is offered in each of the compartments. How well laid out everything is so diving

 In my case, i just have a full-size moleskine notebook, but it's nice that you have at least a little bit of separation in this compartment and then, if you want to use it for minimal travel, it is going to be able to hold. Maybe a packing cube and you can leverage the compartments on the front to hold the dot kit, maybe an additional pair of shoes - and you can use this for a longer weekend, a trip or even longer, if you get really creative, so really love the simple layout Of this main area and just the flexibility of all the pockets throughout the rest of the bag, it works great as an everyday carry bag. You can use it for minimal travel and, if you're looking for something very versatile and durable, that's going to be a little bit more compact and it's going to be a fantastic option to check out and so to wrap up. It'S been a great experience

 At the top of this compartment, you have another o-ring, so really love the implementation here and the flexibility that the compartment gives you, and then you have additional zippered compartments on each side of the bag, starting off here on this one, you have plenty of volume for Anything a little bit bulkier that you want to store and be able to reach a little bit more quickly can see just how much space is offered here, even with my sunglasses, with their case, which is what i normally store in here. There'S still plenty of leftover capacity. If i wanted to place something else and then on the side of this compartment, you have a few slots that are going to be a good spot. To put something like a pen, i have a stylus here and then i also have a flashlight and then on the inside of this compartment

Tom Bihn Synapse 19 Backpack Review - Compact EDC Legend!

 It has a very kind of turtle, shell, like appearance when it's fully packed out. I did like, however, that it didn't stick out too much, but maintain a pretty slim silhouette to make it very easy to walk around crowded areas or jump on to public transit. The synapses also offered in a 19 litre capacity, which is going to be a little bit better for daily carry or if you have a smaller frame, continuing on with the straps and the back paneling. This has been pretty comfortable to wear

 It goes about the length of my hand, so just a nice, simple area, no sort of internal organization and one thing that you'll notice in a lot of the compartments as we go through them is this o-ring system. The Tom bin has in a lot of those bags. I was really excited to try this out. I love the versatility that these ads and then it's really just nice to see it even in this small, quick access area and then on top of that there is a larger and deeper compartment

 Tom bin does actually sell a separate frame sheet that you can add to the bag. If you like, having a little bit more support and to me, this didn't really feel as comfortable as a lot of the other travel bags that I featured on the channel. And one thing that I noticed is that when I put a lot of stuff in the main area like bulkier items such as packing cube or my shoes, I did kind of start to feel stuff pressing up against my back and creating some bulges. That was a little bit uncomfortable, so if you do choose to go with this bag, it's definitely important to place in your laptop or something a little bit more forum to help prevent some of those bulges from getting into your back with that being said, though, the Backpedalling itself has been pretty soft
