 You need three rows for that to work out, but inside dimensions are the same about a half inch different on the height and width, and then the depth is significantly shallower and again this is a 20 liter bag. This is a 21 liter size. So that's pretty again, if you're a shorter frame again, i'm five, nine, and so the gr1 size really fits me perfectly. But this is gon na, be a great camera bag based off of its size and versatility, and it's a little bigger than the bullet 15 liter by about six liters

 I use as my quick access pocket. What I do is the zippers on the front. I try and keep them anywhere towards the top. So, on the go, if I need to open it grab what I need and close it back up, the laura mesh pocket has my electronics pouch

 Is the laptop sleeve like I said this isn't EDC and it was designed as an EDC, so it does have a laptop pocket like all garlic bags to access it. You have to flip the straps back, I'm lucky enough, where I don't need to use this as a laptop of pocket. I actually have a back frame that evenly distributes the weight of the bag. The bag empty is already close to three pounds

 This bag is between 21 and 24 liters. I personally tend to think it falls along the 24 litre and it definitely holds more than some of my 19 or 20 liter backpacks. This bag is made from a thousand D Cordura and, like all the go rock backpacks, it has the slanted front flat pocket and the line of moly at the bottom. I did get a chance to use this bag for a little while before New York and New Jersey completely shut down, as I still had to go to work

 This is not a brown paper bag. It'S actually a packing cube um. This is a packing cube. I generally take with me when I stay at my boyfriend's house, so it has a weekend, maybe a third or fourth day's worth of clothes inside that packing cube

 The bottom is flat, so i think packed out this bag will stand up on its own.  They gave one of my favorites. The radio ruck is a goruck bag. That is small. Basically, it's for small frame people - i am a short short person um, it's it's! It'S short in stature like a and normally a gr1 would be something like this i'll show you next to my bullet

 Since i don't use my wallets very much and uh, let's see so my keys in this front guy my mask because i tend to use those things and this top one i'll put my corona stuff this and this this zippers are all ykk. These are taiwanese made. Ykk zippers, i can tell you already, which is okay um, they tend to be smooth. Go rocks take a little bit to get broken in, as you can see, um like this will take a little while to get smooth, whereas something like this bullet, which is already broken in, is just very smooth, but that's okay anyway, so that's it packed out

I'Ve got my hand sanitizer, so i can put my hand sanitizer in the other mesh guy there then i have my wallet, which is this daybreaker wallet from wayfinder. Carry that i really like and i'll just stick it in the mesh guy on the other side and then we're rolling and zipping that up front pocket now

 Or does that matter? I don't know, let's look at the back. Actually it does we'll talk about in a minute. The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see

 The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see. Um the back panel itself, um, it's just slightly longer here, but it's basically the same thing. That does make a difference later, though, when we talk about laptops and how laptops work in here, but aside from that um that are those are the only exterior differences that you can see

 Plus, the Osprey is unable to stand upright on its own (due to not having a flat bottom) and the Tortuga can. Thus, making it easy to put the bag down on the floor when not carrying it.  -comfortable carry-on bag that is designed as a minimal backpack. Can be incognito from budget airlines and can blend into a crowd of people in a city without looking like a tourist

 Though the Osprey had a better harness/waist strap system, but for the size of bag, the Tortuga's removable waist straps works just fine. Most times I don't even use the waist straps unless I know I will be walking for over 20+ minutes. Plus, the Osprey is unable to stand upright on its own (due to not having a flat bottom) and the Tortuga can. Thus, making it easy to put the bag down on the floor when not carrying it

I was torn between this and the Osprey Farpoint 40L. After trying both of them out, the Tortuga won. Though the Osprey had a better harness/waist strap system, but for the size of bag, the Tortuga's removable waist straps works just fine. Most times I don't even use the waist straps unless I know I will be walking for over 20+ minutes

 came off. With really no effort from us at all—they just popped off as we were putting the bag on. Weird.

And one last thing on this laptop compartment... We really like it, but we do wish that there was some weather resistant or aquaguard YKK zippers used, just for some additional moisture protection for your tech

We like to say that the Setout Divide is what the Homebase should have been... We think that Tortuga has really learned a lot and upped their game when it comes to this smaller pack

. #typicallaptopcompartmentarea? There is a separate tablet sleeve and the actual laptop sleeve is nicely padded, with a false bottom. We love to see those false bottoms on laptop compartments, as it means your laptop isn’t going to hit the ground if you drop the pack. Lots of added security there

As someone else noted, I think you’re going to have trouble going any larger than 27/28L if you still want it to fit underseat, and that’s going to limit the laptop space size you can get away with.

The laptop space should work for your laptop without the extra sleeve. I ditched the sleeve myself after the first trip with this bag as it seemed plenty well protected and the sleeve just added unnecessary bulk. 

I’m looking for a new backpack that will hold up well in travel, commuting / remote work, and everyday use. For context I am 6’ so I am not worried about a backpack being too big for my frame.


Must Haves:

-Under $200 USD

-16-17” laptop sleeve space. My computer is 15.6” but I would prefer to be able to keep it in its external sleeve for extra protection

-minimum 28L storage, preferably 30L, but not looking for excess into the mid 30s since I would want the option to bring this to an office setting / use as an underseat carryon for flights

-a neutral color, black, gray, navy, etc.

Nice to Have:

-waterproof outside material
-external cup holder/water bottle pocket
-small external outside pockets 
-Either a minimalistic look like Herschel or an outdoorsy look like Northface / LLbean


I’ve mostly been looking at men’s backpacks because they seem to be “universal” but I am open to whatever suggestions people have here :)


I see many bags around 28L but this one from Herschel which is unfortunately sold out comes in at 30L. No idea where I could find it or if it’s any good.

Looking for backpack recommendations

 So a nice amount of space here and then everything like that it has this zipper so that you can close the compartment up when you're not using it to prevent it from getting snagged and to just give the bag a cleaner look while we're on the outside The bag also has handles on the top and side that are gon na make it very easy to place this into an overhead storage compartment. Or if you want to hold this like a briefcase when you're walking into a meeting the handles themselves feel very durable and they have this nice gel, like material that add an extra bit of comfort moving into the straps on the back pilling. This is an area where tortugas bags have always excelled. I really like their harness system

 But I really like that the sleeve and the back paneling offer a nice amount of protection for your device and it also comes up a nice amount. So if you do have a thicker laptop, it should be able to fit in here. Ok, so a really nice implementation overall, it definitely feels like my devices, are gon na be well protected throughout the day. The last area that we're going to be taking a look at is the main compartment, so this actually has a clamshell style opening, as opposed to the suitcase style that we've seen on their other bags

 The straps themselves are very comfortable to have a nice patting they're thick. They have a meshing material on the inside to help prevent moisture from building up and ever they like. This injection molded foam that they use here. It feels really great on my shoulders

 So, if you're looking for a durable and affordable bag, that can kind of do it all. This is gon na, be a great option to check out and I'm definitely curious to hear what you guys think of a set out laptop backpack and how it compares to other bags in this size range that we've featured on the channel.
