 You need three rows for that to work out, but inside dimensions are the same about a half inch different on the height and width, and then the depth is significantly shallower and again this is a 20 liter bag. This is a 21 liter size. So that's pretty again, if you're a shorter frame again, i'm five, nine, and so the gr1 size really fits me perfectly. But this is gon na, be a great camera bag based off of its size and versatility, and it's a little bigger than the bullet 15 liter by about six liters

 I use as my quick access pocket. What I do is the zippers on the front. I try and keep them anywhere towards the top. So, on the go, if I need to open it grab what I need and close it back up, the laura mesh pocket has my electronics pouch

 Is the laptop sleeve like I said this isn't EDC and it was designed as an EDC, so it does have a laptop pocket like all garlic bags to access it. You have to flip the straps back, I'm lucky enough, where I don't need to use this as a laptop of pocket. I actually have a back frame that evenly distributes the weight of the bag. The bag empty is already close to three pounds

 This bag is between 21 and 24 liters. I personally tend to think it falls along the 24 litre and it definitely holds more than some of my 19 or 20 liter backpacks. This bag is made from a thousand D Cordura and, like all the go rock backpacks, it has the slanted front flat pocket and the line of moly at the bottom. I did get a chance to use this bag for a little while before New York and New Jersey completely shut down, as I still had to go to work

 This is not a brown paper bag. It'S actually a packing cube um. This is a packing cube. I generally take with me when I stay at my boyfriend's house, so it has a weekend, maybe a third or fourth day's worth of clothes inside that packing cube

 The bottom is flat, so i think packed out this bag will stand up on its own.  They gave one of my favorites. The radio ruck is a goruck bag. That is small. Basically, it's for small frame people - i am a short short person um, it's it's! It'S short in stature like a and normally a gr1 would be something like this i'll show you next to my bullet

 Since i don't use my wallets very much and uh, let's see so my keys in this front guy my mask because i tend to use those things and this top one i'll put my corona stuff this and this this zippers are all ykk. These are taiwanese made. Ykk zippers, i can tell you already, which is okay um, they tend to be smooth. Go rocks take a little bit to get broken in, as you can see, um like this will take a little while to get smooth, whereas something like this bullet, which is already broken in, is just very smooth, but that's okay anyway, so that's it packed out

So i can put my headphones in one of the mesh guys there. I'Ve got my hand sanitizer, so i can put my hand sanitizer in the other mesh guy there then i have my wallet, which is this daybreaker wallet from wayfinder. Carry that i really like and i'll just stick it in the mesh guy on the other side and then we're rolling and zipping that up front pocket now

 Or does that matter? I don't know, let's look at the back. Actually it does we'll talk about in a minute. The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see

 The back. The straps are essentially the same from what i can see. Um the back panel itself, um, it's just slightly longer here, but it's basically the same thing. That does make a difference later, though, when we talk about laptops and how laptops work in here, but aside from that um that are those are the only exterior differences that you can see

 The exterior zippers have AquaGuard protection, which adds to the water resistance of the pack. The main zipper can be a little tough to open and close when it’s stuffed full, but it isn’t an issue unless you really shove a ton in there. 

The sternum strap is pretty thin but clips easily and offers a little bit of security when the pack is loaded to the max. We find it especially useful while moving quickly or cycling, as it helps keep the back flat on our back instead of shifting with quick turns. 

The back panel is rigid but has enough padding to be comfortable. It’s aerated too, which is great for hot days or longer hikes across a new city or rugged terrain. There aren’t channels for airflow, but we found it more than capable. Although it has a fair amount of padding, it’s oddly rigid

 Even without a ton of padding, like many other comfort features on the Dragonfly, it just works.

ULA Equipment Dragonfly Review | Pack Hacker

You had mentioned the laptop pocket in the ULA Dragonfly being kind of bad, I'm wondering why. This is a pack I've been considering but have never been able to check it out in person.

I'm looking for a pack around 30l that I can do some light hiking with. I need a laptop pocket that works so I think that means the farpoint is no good for me. I was looking at some of tortuga's stuff but its a bit heavier than I want. Aer's travel pack 2 seems a bit city oriented but it could still hike well but it's also a bit heavy and I don't really need a lot of its organization. I need a weatherproof pack as well, I will be spending a lot of my time in the UK and the PNW. Also the pack can't be taller than 21.5in for the airline i booked tickets with (I know the aer is a bit bigger, but it's so close I don't think it will be an issue). What bags do you think I should check out?

Looking For A Pack That I Can Hike With

I just returned an Osprey Daylite Expandable pack for several reasons, including that it was pretty structured. By that I mean there was a lot of padding eating into the space that I just don't need, and unnecessary added weight to carry around. The size overall was good, as I'm not a tall person, but despite the nice clamshell opening, it just wasn't going to work for me. I reviewed it in [this pos]([URL REMOVED] 

This is planning more for the future. I recently traveled to Europe for the first time since the pandemic using a carryon on and a personal item (a 16L backpack). My carryon had to be checked a couple times because I was in economy class (which means last to board even if you're on time, so other people always filled the overheads before I could get on) and I honestly overpacked even with the carryon and personal. I'm looking at bigger backpacks so I can use only a personal next time I travel.

When I'm talking personal bag, I mean one for a carrier like American Airlines. I'm looking at the dimensions and the largest size allowed for a personal item on American Airlines is 18x14x8 in. The Osprey Fairview 38L is approximately 19x14x8. Would that be too big even if I underfilled it? And if so, what are y'all's recommendations for a backpack near the maximum personal bag dimensions?

 It’s 19.75” tall which makes it borderline at best for under seat use or passing budget airline sizing boxes. I can easily find 22 liter that would fit under a seat so it’s a puzzle to me why I would want to buy a $175 pack with those odd features. Likewise the Atlas that is actually 27

Likewise the Atlas that is actually 27.7 liters in the main body and over a kilo and 23” tall when 22” is the typical length allowed for overhead and a $200 price tag. What IS the appeal?

I have used ULA’s backpacks for hiking and they have a good reputation in the ultralight hiking world, but I don’t get the appeal for travel bags. They aren’t very light and there is the discrepancy of Pack volume including the mesh outside pockets. For example the Dragonfly is marketed as a 30 liter bag but the main body is just 21.75 liters

The ULA Dragonfly is a bag that comes up here with regular frequency for people looking for a smaller bag that is light wight. One of the biggest issues people have/had with it is that it had a huge embroidered ULA Gear Logan utah logo on the front and to get one with out that you had to special/custom order it from them  

That is no more. This pack now comes by default without the branding/logo so it does not require a custom order to get it removed. 

This might alleviate some people's issue with it and make it a more attractive option. The interior dimensions are still quite small so space may still be an issue.

 You pretty much always have to like lean it up against something when you take it off on the trail, which again it's honestly not a big deal at all. I don't even know why i'm complaining about it. I guess it would be kind of nice to be able to just like take a break on the trail and just like put your backpack on the ground when you take it off and not have to find like a log or a tree or something to lean. It up against, i don't know, maybe in the desert

 This is the pack i would go with, especially if you're on a budget, even if you're not on a budget like be sure to check out my podcast trail tales. Trailtailspot.Com you'll hear some conversations between experienced hikers some long-form conversations, we'll just bs for an hour about hiking. It'S awesome every single week

 Well, not this one, this one for the entire appalachian trail. So obviously it can be used for a long distance through hike. But i also do a lot of day hiking too, and it's so awesome to be able to use the same backpack for a long distance through hike and a day, because, basically, the way this works is they have these like cinches on the side and then, of Course, the cinches and straps on the top as well, and so you can pack this thing down, pretty damn small and again it's so lightweight that it's probably the same weight as just like your osprey day pack anyways. The funny thing is i've literally just loaded

 This backpack is ultra light as, and this thing only costs 145 dollars for that reason that i just can't believe that this isn't one of the, if not the most popular ultralight backpack on the market. So if you are to put it in perspective, i've been using a ula cdt backpack. Since 2014., i've used my ula cdt on the long trail

If you don't know about this Ultralight Backpack, You're STUPID

 So let me show you what they've just put together for me. This pack, right here, like I said, is very similar to this pack, but I went with even wider shoulder straps and the foam feels really thick and I'll. Show you some pictures of an issue that I was having with this pack and then I'll talk about how we solved it so because, sometimes when this pack or the pack below it has been multiply, packed the top of it kind of wants to fall away from The shoulders, so I had them, put load lifters on this pack and now my son and I both have very similar packs, I'm usually carrying most of the weight anyhow and, like I said this, one has a little thicker or wider shoulder straps. It'S got load, lifters and, of course, the x-pac material

 Let me show you this pack and compare it to the one that I've been using, which is really my sons, let's get to it. Here'S the pack that ula made for my son and when he's not backpacking, I've been using it and I really like it. So I had them make me something similar, but the specs on this pack are pretty cool. I'Ve got wider, shoulder straps with the new thicker foam, I'm using Justin Anderson's, shoulder, strap water bottle holders, and you can see

 Folks, over there, 200 bucks is what they charged me for this pack and, like I said, I'm looking forward to trying it this weekend. My New Custom ULA Backpack

 That fits your shoulder and torso very well they're made from two layers of foam padding. There'S this thin firm foam padding on the front, and then this softer squishy foam behind this breathable mesh on the back they're, not very thick, but the width of them helps distribute the weight across your shoulders down. Here they have the standard adjustable, sternum, strap connected with a plastic duraflex buckle and then some other accessories that you see more commonly in backpacking backpacks like these little plastic d-rings, and then these two mesh stretchy pockets. These things are great for hiking

 That makes this great as a hiking backpack and if you think this pack is a little small for you, then stick around because i'll be comparing the dragonfly to the larger 40 liter ula atlas. In a later video i intended to get the dragonfly with the vx 21rs fabric, but they sent me the regular x-pack. So i won't be able to compare these fabrics - it's not as soft as the rx, but it's still a great fabric. This is the vx21

 You can store other gear in here: clothes, shoes, snacks, etc, and this front pocket is the same way. Has this top zipper access and this fabric is really stretchy, so you can fit a ton of gear in here. Also, has this bungee cord on the back that you can use to strap on even more gear? You can easily fit an extra jacket or even a towel under this thing and then just to show you how versatile and how much extra room these pockets add. You can use the main pack as your travel gear and then all these pockets add enough room

 It doesn't take up a lot of room in the pack, but it offers you enough padding and protection for your laptop, it's protected on the front and the back with this thin piece of firm foam padding, as well as the squishy backpack material. This thing is pretty large: it will fit up to a 17 inch laptop. This is my 15 inch dell slides in there pretty easily, in addition to the padding in the front and the back, this thing has a false bottom so see my laptop only comes down to right here, there's a little bit of space in the bottom. So you don't need to worry about damaging your laptop when you set the bag down as far as carry options
