Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly UltraPlush 81714 vs Kenmore Elite 31150

So I took the wiring harness apart, cut the ribbon, notched it and abraded the end to expose the metal connections. I reinserted it into the clip and secured it with copious amounts of tape, enough to fortify the inevitable bend that occurs. Put it back together and what do I get? VOILA! A vacuum again! Should this have happened? No. In the amount of time I have owned this unit, they should have at least tested a unit twice as long (I do for my products) but here’s a TIP to prevent this problem for anybody considering this unit

Not a showstopper, but is it really that difficult to engineer a handle at the top of the dust bag and have it molded into the plastic housing? Really? Also, for Amazon shoppers: DO NOT BUY THE 2-PACK OF EF-1 FILTERS AS PART OF THE PURCHASE PACKAGE!!!!! THIS VAC USED EF-9, NOT EF-1. EF-1 IS ONLY 1/2 THE REQUIRED THICKNESS AND WILL NOT WORK!!!!! (the 2-pack of EF-1 hepa filters was offered at the time we made our purchase in January 2018. hopefully, it will be removed when Amazon reviewers read this and you won't get suckered into buying something that won't work with this vac)

The C1s are excellent, but I do not necessarily recommend them for somebody who has mostly carpet. To get anything that would be excellent on carpet from Miele, you would need to pay more than your maximum price. I typically recommend the C1 Turbo for somebody who has mostly hard floors and a few rugs or carpeted spaces.

I don't have pets, so I can't judge the special pet hair attachment. Overall, if you have a lot of non-carpeted floors in your home, this vacuum will disappoint you. But if you have primarily carpeted floors, then you'll probably be satisfied (my carpeted area is limited, but the vacuum has appeared to do a good job on it so far).

It does a good job picking up dust and dirt from both. But Cons: - The air filter cover pops off. There's a single sliding latch that is supposed to keep the cover on, but it pops off frequently when the vacuum is stood on end. The design would have been better off if Kenmore had put on two opposing latches to release the cover

The Hoovers are made of cheaper plastic which makes them break at certain clips and areas such as the bases where the back wheels mount and they chew through belts pretty quickly. They are good machines for the price, but not as good as the Kenmores. The Kenmore has a sealed HEPA filtration system that is better for allergies and a true lifetime belt with a separate brush roll motor for ease of transition onto different floor types. It weighs a bit more than the Hoover, but is a way better machine overall

The swivel-head, though, does not allow me any control: specifically, I used to be able to lift the old head off the floor if I needed to suck up a small stone; or I could go from vacuuming the concrete floors, to the top of my dog beds, to my sofa without changing heads. The swivel head is NOT good on the dog beds, the sofa, or for picking up little things other than dust and hair. It takes me SO LONG to vacuum the house now. Additionally, it takes some concerted effort to switch to the electric carpet attachment

The [Elite is an absolute beast. In fact, it has the most suction at the cleaner head of any vacuum cleaner that I have seen

I was able to follow the instructions for putting it together. Overall it seems intuitive to use and has excellent suction, especially on rugs and carpet. The switch for hardwood, carpet and power on the handle work as intended but seem flimsy. It’s easy to hit the carpet setting on hardwood

However, it seems that all of the vacuums that fit into that category are from Sebo and Miele, and are $700 or above, just a bit out of my price range. My upmost limit is $600. I've found the Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly UltraPlush 81714 to be recommended by Consumer reports, though I can't confirm that the nozzle is electric. Is this a good choice (if it is) and are there any other recommendations or experiences with great vacuums between 450 - 600 that others on the board have? I would greatly appreciate it

A Kenmore would likely hit at the lower end of your price range. If you have any newer Kenmore uprights such as the 31140 or the Elite 31150, those do well on the used market as well.

I have some floor attachments, brushes, and long-reach wands that fit other vacuums, but they won't work with this Kenmore because of it's design. I was able to fashion an adapter that gets around this problem, but there's some risk the adapter may damage the hose. Kenmore should make their vacuums to use standard attachments, so customers don't lose their investment in specialized attachments. Third, the only attachment with a brush for effectively vacuuming bare floors is only 9 inches wide instead of the standard 14 inch width of most floor attachments

Huge, bulky and expensive is what I saw when I first viewed the product. Bigger does not always mean better, and this product exemplifies that. This vacuum taught me that design is important, even in everyday functional objects. For some stupid reason, the handle part is a separate, detachable piece

Keep the filter at the top of the dust bin clean and make sure you replace the exhaust filter every so often. These procedures are in the owner's manual.

Poorly made, the back filter door pops off continually and filter falls out. And it's July and the filter is NOT washable and you have to duct tape the filter door. Worst piece of junk I ever bought
