EDIT: thank you very much for all of your responses. Looks like the Lenovo Thinkpad E15 gen3 it is! One last question just for my own knowledge/information. Other googled results I did on my own prior to this post led me to laptops from alienware and Acer's predator... i saw those seem to be mostly for video games. Am I correct in understanding that those focus on aspects of gaming like video processor and graphics cards? In other words, what makes a 'gaming laptop' different or more geared towards gaming, than a buisness grade laptop i am going to get for trading? They both seem to emphasize significance of CPU and RAM.

My mom is getting me a new laptop for college and the limit is $1000. I’m not a very technologically adept person so I figured I would ask for some advice. I need a laptop to last me throughout college and is able to do necessary work such as writing papers and making presentations. I would also like to have a long battery life. I own the sims 4 and the cats and dogs expansion and want to be able to play it with no problem. I probably won’t be getting any other sims expansions, but I would also like to get Minecraft for it.  First of all the laptop has a plastic feeling. I understand it is E Series Lenovo, one of their entry-level quality laptops. I mean even with that, it should be a little better built. I also really need the backlit keyboard as I code in the dark, lights out

Battery life, though, is a bit disappointing. Lenovo claims up to 18  hours, but that's not for the more powerful configuration I tested with  the UHD-resolution display which ran for 6 hours, 21 minutes in our  streaming video test. With power and screen brightness adjustments, you  can get more work time out of it, but basically, if you want the best  battery life, skip the UHD HDR display

The GTX 1650 can only push around 60 fps at 1080p, so if you want to keep the laptop for a while, it's best to get a better configuration with an RTX 3050 or 3060, as the GTX 1650 might not be able to handle newer AAA titles. There are only 1080p display options; we recommend getting the 120Hz or 165Hz panel. Again, the important thing is to spend as much of your budget on the best GPU and display as possible since you can upgrade the memory and storage yourself later on.

Though entirely plastic, this laptop feels surprisingly sturdy, especially for a model in its price range. Lenovo has refreshed the popular L340 as the
IdeaPad Gaming 3, but now it has an AMD Ryzen

4000 option, so just how well does it perform
in games?

I’ve tested the 1650 Ti model in 22 games
at all setting levels and also compared it

against other laptops to find out the difference.

Let’s jump straight into the results from
those 22 titles, then the comparisons after.

Microsoft flight simulator wasn’t great
at high settings, and ultra was a no go, medium

was alright but there were less noticeable
dips with the low-end setting preset.

Death Stranding was around 60 FPS with the
highest setting preset, it was running ok

and there wasn’t all that much of an improvement
comparatively with the lower settings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was tested using the
game’s built in benchmark tool, it’s not

possible to run at ultra settings due to the
4 gig VRAM limit of the GTX 1650 Ti graphics,

otherwise the results are only just ahead
of the 1650 in the Nitro 5 I recently tested.

Battlefield 5 was tested in campaign mode,
