Morakniv Basic 511 Fixed Blade vs Mora Granfors

This is my first Scandi grind knife . At this price everybody should buy one to try out before you would invest your money in a much more expensive Scandi grind knife. It seems that a lot of the bush craft blogs go crazy over this type of grind and how easy it is to re-sharpened. In order to sharpen you have to hold the knife on a bench stone in order to get the correct angle and holding that angle as you approach the tip of the blade is nearly impossible

The handle seems very strong, tightly grained hickory with excellent orientation. I find working with it to be pure joy. I'll grant that it is expensive, but in this case I think you get what you pay for. I would buy it again in a heartbeat

I mean for 10 bucks it's hard to complain but that doesn't mean they should get a pass for poor quality. Here's the issues: *Plastic belt clip bent out basically from just sitting normally in a camp chair *Almost no knife retention (no snap or anything makes it kinda sketchy with such a sharp knife. *The plastic retention that exists is not very strong at all Overall great knife for the price but plan on buying or making a new sheath.

I use this ax nearly every single day. It’s an ideal size for having near a wood stove or furnace. I have mine in a small corridor next to my wood stove that’s used to hold wood pre-burn. The ceiling is low (about 6’4”) due to ductwork

No stars removed for the sheath. This is not an end all, be all survival knife. I would not advise you to baton wood with it (despite what the YT Videos may say) unless it's very small kindling/tinder. Use this knife to make feather sticks, not chop down a tree

The strap is too long and causes the sheath to come loose when hiking or any kind of movement is involved. I contacted both Kenco and Gransfors in order to remedy this situation but have not heard from them in over 9 days. This is truly unfortunate because, though my experience with Gransfors has been positive thus far, I'm left wondering if this was a vendor issue or if it was manufactured incorrectly. Regardless, the premium price that Gransfors Bruk charges for their axes leaves one hoping that a quality issue such as this would not be overlooked

The handle IS impressive and offers a very good grip. The sheath is nice, but weak in holding the knife. Again, you get what you pay for. In the past I read so many comments about this manufacture and the quality of knives, I thought this model would be a good one

It's soft and will age well after continue care and applying leather conditioner oil. Axe handle: I was a bit confused at first with the circular grooves but after reading the description on the Gransfor Bruk site it makes sense. I may sand it smooth if it bugs me enough but for now going to keep it as is.

Please understand what you are buying. This is a carbon steel knife. It is not stainless steel. If you want stainless, it is available in this model with a blue handle
