i love the feel of the nib and overall way that it writes unfortunately the 'custom series' clear acrylic pens have a design flaw ; the clear acrylic resin body of the pen develops hairline fractures/cracks (usually around the ends/edges where the pen threads with the nib and where it threads with the cap) most likely due to the expansion and shrinkage of that portion of the pen during opening and closing during ink loading and during the capping of the pen. the pen requires a metal finish in these areas for the problem to be resolved . i hope Pilot looks into this matter cos i love the rest of the pen and how it writes. overall i love most pilot products

Custom series pilot fountain pens

 I would not have purchased this if the price wasn't so good. It happened to be much lower than the normal 160 that most places (including Amazon) sell it for. If you p[lay with the color / nib options while browsing, certain colors / nibs will be lower in price on occasion. Saw this one dropped for purple with medium nib (under 130) and added it to the cart right away

  Which brings me to my only complaint. I’m writing with my Custom74 about as much as my Twsbi and am filling my Custom74 more frequently. The Twsbi has a noticeably bigger ink capacity.  Would I buy the Custom74 again? Hmmmm, not sure

Nice pen but needs refilling more than I expected

 I always like building things that are quality but leave somewhere to go afterwards. Getting a Custom 74 with a Con 70 for the added ink capacity may not be as sexy as a Visconti but it will give you an amazing writing experience that might put the whole idea of a grail into better focus.

I’ve really gone off the deep end both faster and deeper than I anticipated. 

All started with the desire to get the Ti Ultra because I love a good rollerball.  Loved the idea of being able to have a cool pen and get Pelikan, MontBlanc and other great refills in a handsome Titanium pen.  The fact that it came with both #6 Titanium and Steel Bock nibs were initially just pluses.  I decided to see if I even liked FPs and got the Metropolitan, Lamy Safari, Kaweco Sport, and Jinnhao 750.   

I quickly saw how much I preferred FPs, and the community.  I then moved to a Ltd Edition, Ebony Conklin All American, a Kaweco Steel and Brass sport as well as the Aluminum, a Pilot Prera, a Sailor Compass some additional Lamys, a Noodlers Ahab and Triple Tail and two TWSBI Ecos and a TWSBI AL R, a Muji, some other Jinhaos etc. 

My favorite writers are the Kaweco Steel in Medium and the TWBIs in the stub which I tuned to be a very smooth italic bold.  

I really want a nice gold nib with some flex.  I really like my Sailor but it’s too stiff and I prefer something with a little thicker line.  

I know the Vanishing Point is a nice pen but not what I’m looking for.   

I’m considering the Pilot Falcon, in a soft but not sure of the thickness, a Sailor 1911L love how the Loch Ness looks, but would take it however and the Pro Gear in  (perhaps in bold or music) I’ve also thought about the custom 74 or the platinum 3776 and have always liked the look of the Diplomat.   

Alternatively I’ve considered a nice steel nib and have heard good things about the Fabre Castel, E-Motion and the Visconti steel nibs.  I consider the Visconti Homo Sapiens -particularly the dream pen 

Like variation are very important as is a nice pen thats handsome, well crafted, a solid name with a good filling system that can be used for decades and hopefully passed down.  One of my main drawback for the Sailors and the Pilots mentioned is their filling with a converter -though I do like changing inks, after trying a few dozen samples and having 6 or 8 full sized bottles I’m starting to hone in on a few that I’d like to use most all of the time.  

Have always found this community to be friendly, collegial, knowledgeable and patient so I’d really appreciate any help you guys could provide.

First gold Nib - looking for smooth and some line variation and some flex. thoughts and opinions requested and appreciated.

The nib is beautiful, the pen writes smooth, but the weight is not to my pleasing. I do realize I bought a clear, plastic pen, but the least pilot could do is make the plastic thicker and increase the heft.

For gel pens, I hold pilot G2 and pentel energel in high regards. The standard pentel is a little flimsy and I definitely prefer the body of the pilot G2, but both are great writers. And the best thing is, the refills fit in a bunch of other pen bodies! I think pentel specifically sells better pen bodies. The pilot G2 refill can be modified to fit into Lamy rollerball pens, which I really want to try out some time

 Second thing you have to look out for is grip. Do you grip your pen very tightly? If so, why? Pens with large diameter seem to work really well in that regard for some people. 

I'd say gel pens or fountain pens are the way to go for you. Both require little to no pressure to write so that has the potential to reduce cramps significantly. My goal wouldn't be to write neatly, but rather just to write down the massive amount of information I get very fast, without my hand cramping

Although I'm right-handed, I hold my pen like left-handed people, just like [this](https://www.nibs.com/sites/default/files/product_images/pens/upload/sailor/wRick%20Propas%20left%20hand%20writing.JPG). 

So maybe if choosing the right pen, this information would be very important

What kind of pen should I use if I have to write lots of notes during a lecture?

TL;DR - looking for an all metal pen that takes **Pilot G2** refills and looks as professional and sleek as a Parker Jotter. 

My perfect ink/cartridge is Pilot G2 0.38mm. I’ve tried tons of others, fountain pens, space pens, but always come back to the G2. 

 Apparently there was no consistency from my 1st purchase to the 2nd purchase, and 3 out of 12 is terrible to invest in considering the price.

This is based upon my last purchase; very dissatisfied. I am a HUGE fan of G2 pilot pens (0.7 specifically) however this last haul there was a total of 3 out of 12 that functioned properly. The rest, the ink would not roll off smoothly and appeared completely dried out
