Recently I had a Schiit Heresy and Modi 3 with Sennheiser HD58X. I liked that setup, but wanted to experience more stuff with better quality. Headphones:.

Hey, I’m new to this subreddit so I just wanted to share my audio gear. Thoughts &amp; recommendations are appreciated.

I'm new to audiophile gear too and I was looking for an headphone with a relatively neutral sound, not fatiguing to wear and listen to, and not needing a dedicated amp. The Sennheiser HD58X are just 129$ now, with a 10$ discount if it's your first order on Drop. I will order them, because even considering shipping to Italy and possible import fees, they are cheaper than the alternatives.

**Tl;dr:** i want to buy a good wired headphone with the best possible sound. I would mostly use it to listen to music and without and amp. I wrote down the headphone that are in my price range. Comfort, mic and portability is irrelevant to me.

So i want to buy a "good headphone" for watching movies and listening to music. It would be for 50 % use at home and 50% at a dorm. I have just bought the Beyerdynamic 990 pro 250 ohm and i really liked the sound signature of it, but it hurt my ear at every sound level(it was like a piercing feeling and it hurt afterwards for hours). So, because of that im gonna return it. Now i dont know which headphone would be best. I looked a little into it and found out that the best headphones in the same price range in my country are the:

\- **Sennheiser hd 25-1 II** (i heard that the new ones' cables are bad, 140$)

\- **Audio-Technica ATH-M50x** (i heard that the folding mechanism can brake easily and that it is flat, but not at the same time, 155$)

\- **Sennheiser HD 599** (its a little out of my price range, 220$)

\- **Shure SRH840** (140$)

\- **Sennheiser HD6 MIX** (165$)

\- **Sony MDR7506(**i heard that it's not ideal for "fun" listening and it's best for classical music, 135$)

or there are cheaper ones that i heard good things about:

I want to buy only wired headphones, because i dont like that i need to charge a wireless one and i can use a wired with almost anything. As far as dac and amp goes i have a Fiio e10k. However my saound card in my laptop is really good, but it wasn't able to handle the 990 pro 250 ohm(i tried it with a mini hifi and they sounded really great). I would only like to buy headphones with jack connection and if possible detachable cable. I don't need a mic. 

I mostly listen to old school hip-hop, rock, electro (like duft punk), lofi and jazz/jazzy music. I would listen to music on spotify and Youtube mostly, but i have some flacs.

Portability is irrelevant to me and i can't feel pain on my ears because of bad earphone pads, so comfortability is irrelevant too.

I had a hyperx cloud 1, but the cable broke in 3 different ways. Before the dt990 i used pioneer  **SE-MS5T-K** which compared to the dt 990 pro sounds flat and the "soundstage" is not existent, but for the price it's really good. It's better than the cloud 1 in my opinion.

I hope i wrote every neccessary detail.

Want to buy a headphone for movies and music, around 150$.

Maybe some of the Phillips options (x2hr, shp9600), or you can find used sennheiser hd58x for about the same $120-$130. You can also find used sennheiser HD560s under $150, but those aren’t always as good for fun listening, and one of the best openback budget options is the hifiman he400se or he-x4, but those require at least a portable amp to actually sound good, and sometimes just to get loud enough. I’d only get the BTR5 if just having Bluetooth is really important to you. Also note that iPhone don’t support any of the higher res Bluetooth codecs, so you are generally just buying it for the Bluetooth convenience at this point

The Sennheiser HD 800 and HD 598.
Both are light, with no clamp force and the cups are wide and deep enough to not touch my ears.
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 comes as a close second.

Comfort as a subject is so subjective, more so than even sound so having a consensus on this subject is near to impossible. With that said, the sony mdr z7 series is the best I’ve ever had in this aspect, and its comfort is the only reason why it still sticks around in my collection today. 

Also mild rant, for some reason headphone companies are historically really bad at ergonomics. My LCD-X, Arya and focal clear all have some really jank aspects in terms of their ergonomics and design, which I really think is a shame. Conversely, this is why Sony excels, they are a large conglomerate with a foot in almost everything and evidently have done some rnd in this department which translates well to their products. Now if only they can make an open back headphone for once…..

I know, the Nari isn't really best quality, but sometimes I just want dumb fun and those vibrations are just that.     
My reasoning for all of these is their soft earpads with very large round holes. My ears are super sensitive and anything touching them feels like torture after a while, so I need headphones that leave them alone, also I wear glasses with a thick frame and need something that doesn't push the frame into my skull.

 It's just outstanding for the application. On the note of gaming, though, I should probably mention or caution that of the open backs I've tried, this is one of the ones that leaks the most sound. So when gaming online, I tend to hear a lot more complaints about my music leaking into the microphone if I'm not on push-to-talk or muted, so I guess that's probably something I should have brought up in the cons section, but we're here now. Base aside, I also really like the tonality of the HD800S

 And the problem with the design element is that it's quite prone to getting dents and scratches if it's not handled with care. So at least for me, it feels like every time I pick up the headphone, I gotta be very mindful about trying to avoid touching that part of the headphone and only grabbing it from the black plastic parts. The more serious problem I have with the HD800S and its current design, and this is something that I pointed out in my original review, are the connector sockets for the driver, which are really easy to break. Some might remember that I actually broke my original review unit of the HD800S because I tried removing the cables from the headphone side when the entire jack assembly came out, which of course meant that I could no longer use one of the drivers in the headphone

 And in this video, I want to share maybe some insight into what drew me to this headphone while also sharing some of the pros and cons of the HD800S so that maybe you can decide if it's a good fit for you as well. Let's start out with the cons. So I should mention that I believe that the HD800S is a very well-built headphone in terms of the materials used and the care with which it's assembled. However, there are two things about this chassis that I do find to be somewhat bothersome

 So when gaming online, I tend to hear a lot more complaints about my music leaking into the microphone if I'm not on push-to-talk or muted, so I guess that's probably something I should have brought up in the cons section, but we're here now. Base aside, I also really like the tonality of the HD800S. As expected from an open-back Sennheiser headphone, the mids here are exceptionally well-tuned with rich fundamental tones that are properly contoured by the present, yet not shouty, upper mid-range. While the treble in the original HD800 was quite spicy, I don't actually have any severe issues with the HD800's treble
