Sony WF-1000XM4 vs Sony WH-1000XM3

Oh, that's really cool. So the noise cancellation is what takes away the actual, like, whirring. But then the wind noise reduction is what takes away ...

I’ll give you this, your average Joe won’t care to here the difference between the Sony WH-1000XM3 and a much better headphone like the Sennheiser HD58X. The soundstage, separation, and highs aren’t good with the XM3, but it’s something you wouldn’t notice much unless you’re listening analytically.

Definitely better than Sony WF-SP800N and Technics EAH-AZ70W. I have Sennheiser PXC550 and Sony WF-1000XM4 headphones and I would consider the 85T to be right on par with these in terms of ANC alone.

Afterward, fantastic sound; maybe the best I’ve ever heard. 2) Ambient Noise-Cancelling (ANC) - Simply outstanding. Almost completely neutralized all of the ambient noise on a full airline flight. Once I started playing music, there was no ambient noise whatsoever

********************* Update ******************************* I returned them because I did not find the improvements in sound quality worth the many sacrifices when compared to my Airpods Pro. In my original review I had also mentioned that the Sony had better battery life, but with LDAC turned ON it's only about 5 hours--not the 8 hours claimed by Sony, which is just a hair longer than the Airpods Pro. Plus, they both have fast charging making the impact of a longer battery life less significant. Finally, Sony failed to fix the ambient noise issue--both with the fading in and out and the general poor performance

BT battery reporting on the phone app initially did not work and said I had 0% battery, despite the headphones vocal prompt telling me they were fully charged 100% and being able to make all other adjustments in the app (fully connected and functional otherwise). For a bit of back and forth and power ups and downs or both phone and headphones, I got pretty frustrated and was ready to return them for a faulty battery as the app won’t even update the phone firmware if the problem was these because the battery is “too low” and since there’s no way to do it through Windows (USB cable or BT) I was on the verge of packing these up to return. Fortunately, in a last ditch effort, I disconnected and told my phone to “forget” the BT device and when I reconnected the BT device, and was able to finally update. Unfortunately, again, when the headphone FW updated it happened again despite everything else about the app settings functioning perfectly again (clearly a bug Sony hasn’t fixed yet)

These are also in general rather huge. Some might like this, I do not. I want these to tuck into my ears not stick out a 1/4 to 1/2". When rotated into place, they do stay in my ears which is nice

The band of leatherette on top is soft and has good cushion. Similarly around the ear cups. Very soft and nice to the touch. Not as stiff as the QCs

just turn off the screen. The Google assistant app messes things up a bit too as it adds another bluetooth device. I got it going but then I wanted to watch football on the iPad so switched off bluetooth and things were messed up when I tried to use a second time. Decided the assistant was not worth the hassle until Sony catches up with Bose with such things

The quality of the sound is just amazing. They are a keeper. Take the rest of this review with a grain of salt. Within a control environment the sound is incredible, there is no going back to my old earbuds

As a software engineer, I needed a pair of headphones that I could COMFORTABLY wear all day and the Sonys simply do not live up to that task. After approximately 90 minutes, I start to feel a light pain on the top of my head from the clamping of the headphones and my ears start to feel warm which is extremely uncomfortable. I am then forced to remove them to reduce the fatigue before I can put them back on. The Bose on the other hand I can wear seemingly endlessly without any discomfort

As a result, I decided to try some silicone ear-tips and they are SO MUCH BETTER. Why did you not include silicone ear-tips in addition to the foam ones, Sony? The silicone has a much more secure fit, is way more comfortable, and the seal remains regardless of your facial expression. Issue number one resolved for a few extra dollars. 2

I'm coming off of the Sony WH-1000XM3 and they're great for travelling and commuting. But as I spent most of my time at home over the past year (for obvious reasons), I wanted something better for my desk.

I personally find the price point for such a device a little expensive however in direct comparison to other brands and for the top of the range premium device with the range of features provided out of the box, there really is no comparison to be made here if you are willing to pay for the best in this area.

After reading many reviews and doing more research than was probably needed I decided that Sony and Bose were the top 2 contenders. My wife had recently bought on Amazon the Utaxo, which have good reviews, are cheaper, and when I took them on a flight I was satisfied with their performance (for the price) and without a comparison to other headphones. I abused BestBuy and their return policy and purchased the Sony and the Bose. In the store I sampled the SkullCandy and they sounded bass-heavy and not clear, so I didn't include them
