 I think it comes highly recommended, but this thing is about 700 pounds or what? Over $1000 700 pounds over $1000 for something that has a resolution of - 560 by 1080?  But personally I think it looks really good. Now, the disc setup I've got for is very white and black and this is a very strong contrast II design scheme and so it fits in nicely. You've got the red accents with the sort of black bezels. The bezels themselves are pretty slim

 Price: this monitor if it was 400 pounds I would be able to sit here and I would say I had a few problems. but overall I think it would look very nice in your desk and it's a very nice immersive experience. Acer Z35 Predator Monitor Review

So I just got my Odyssey G9 two days ago and after spending some time with it ican see that I am disappointed. 

The lack of support for 32:9 caught me by surprise. I am coming from  a 3440x1440 21:9 screen ( which my 3 year old son broke btw!) And I was getting used to the black bars in games. But I discovered 32:9 is a whole different story.

I have RTX 3070 and I feel even this card can't give me 240hz with the 5120×1440 resolution. Also I tried  some games that I have been playing lile Rainbow Six and Knocout city and I was shocked when I saw that they don't support 32:9 !

Also I tried Biomutant which I was keeping for this new monitor. There is 5120x1440 resolution but that messes up the FOV even when  I put max. The game is so zoomed in the unplayable. I had to lower my resolution to 3440x1440 and 120hz to play the game . Again black bars!

So I don't know guys I need someone to lift my spirit here. Or did I make the wrong decision to but this monitor?

Disappointed in my new G9 😕

 However, it appears that Acer decided that the ultra wide gaming community needed more. In terms of high refresh rate panels, Enter the Predators at 35 35 inch, 21 by 9, 200 Hertz gaming monitor. Let's dive in to see how much value this monitor actually can provide. To start off, the Z35 comes with the aforementioned 35 inch curved G-sync VA or vertical alignment panel as opposed to IPS or TA

 Again, hedging my critique of the Z 35. There likely are people who will actually gain benefit from the extra refresh rate in the games that they play. So it's not to say that the Z 35 shouldn't exist. just make sure that you know what you're getting yourself into and don't think it's automatically better because the spec sheet shows higher numbers

Ultrawide 200Hz - Acer Predator Z35 Review

 The refresh rate goes to an awesome 200 Hertz you heard that right, 200 Hertz and as usual, Acer added a little bit of sweetness with the addition of G sync. So overall, we're looking at an alternative to the Ex 34, which offers a much faster panel, but lacks the color reproduction offered by IPs and the X 30 for better resolution. Unfortunately, due to bandwidth constraints of today's display interface connectors, pushing such high refresh rates to a high resolution monitor like the Ex 34 just isn't possible. So Acer made this Z 35

 The downside is of course that resolution and the amount of firepower you'll need to drive it to its fullest potential. I've used plenty of 4k panels and ultra wide displays and it does take some time to get used to the curve. In addition: I Can't really see using this thing for professional tasks since the curve tends to distort images of bed. but for gamers, it's really hard to think of a better option if you have the cash and the money for a serious gaming

 A 34 inch screen with a 34 40 by 1440 resolution like the one found on the X 34 would provide a lot of virtual real estate for productivity or more specifically, video editing. Meanwhile, the Z 35 2560 by 1080 screen just looks enlarged and will likely provide an inadequate experience for professionals. You lose quite a lot of real estate, especially if you want to have a duel or try Windows setup something that the X34 can easily achieve due to its high resolution. I Think a sir went a little over-aggressive this time in the design department - don't get me wrong, the Ex35 is certainly gorgeous and has a pinch of aggressiveness though I Prefer a more subtle approach

 Unfortunately, due to bandwidth constraints of today's display interface connectors, pushing such high refresh rates to a high resolution monitor like the Ex 34 just isn't possible. So Acer made this Z 35. One thing to mention is that the Z 35 uses a panel that natively runs at 144 Hertz, but through the use of Acer's on-screen display menu, it can effectively be overclocked to a maximum of 200 Hertz. But achieving that 144 to 200 frames per second with in today's highly demanding titles will be challenging

I have spent hours pouring through reviews of just about every monitor on the market. Enough to seriously question my own sanity.

My conclusion must be that PC monitors are all fatally compromised. No, wait. All "gaming" monitors are fatally compromised, and none have all-round brilliant gaming credentials. Sorry Reddit - I'm looking for a gaming monitor, and this is my rant.

    1. VA and 144Hz is a lie

"Great blacks," they said. Lots of smearing when those "great blacks" start moving around on the screen tho.

None of the VA monitors have fast enough response times *across the board* to do anything beyond about \~100Hz (excepting the G7 which has other issues). A fair few much less than that. Y'all know that for 60 Hz compliance you need a max response time of 16 Hz, and yet with VA many of the dark transitions are into the 30ms range!

Yeah it's nice that your best g2g transition is 4ms and that's the number you quote on the box. However your average 12ms response is too slow for 144Hz and your worst response is too slow for 60Hz, yet you want to tell me you're a 144Hz monitor? Pull the other one.

    2. You have VRR, but you're only any good at MAX refresh?

Great performance at max refresh doesn't mean much when your behaviour completely changes below 100 FPS. I buy a FreeSync monitor because I don't have an RTX 3090. Therefore yes, my frame rate is going to tank occasionally. Isn't that what FreeSync is for?

OK, so what happens when we drop below 100 FPS...? You become a completely different monitor. I get to choose between greatly increased smearing, overshoot haloing, or input lag. Why do you do this to me?

    3. We can't make something better without making something else worse

Hello, Nano IPS. Thanks for the great response times. Your contrast ratio of 700:1 is a bit... Well, it's a bit \*\*\*\*, isn't it.

Hello, Samsung G7. Your response times are pretty amazing! But now you've got below average contrast (for a VA) and really, really bad off-angle glow like IPS? And what's this stupid 1000R curve?  Who asked for that?

    4. You can't have feature X with feature Y

You can't do FreeSync over HDMI.

You can't do &gt;100Hz over HDMI.

You can't adjust overdrive with FreeSync on.

Wait, you can't change the brightness in this mode?

    5. You are wide-gamut and have no sRGB clamp

Yet last years models had it. Did you forget how to do it this year? Did you fire the one engineer that could put an sRGB clamp in your firmware?

    6. Your QA sucks

I have to send 4 monitors back before I get one that doesn't have the full power of the sun bursting out from every seem.

I get it.

You want me to buy 5 monitors.

One for 60Hz gaming. One for 144Hz gaming. One for watching SDR content. One for this stupid HDR bullocks. And one for productivity.

PC monitors are just bad

Like the Acer Z35 200hz VA panel was literally a straight up scam. The pixel response time was so bad, it couldn't even support 60hz without ghosting and motion blur beyond that of even a shitty 60hz panel, let alone 200hz. It was less than worthless.

can anyone else with G9 chime in,  is HDR mode in games pretty shitty?  I Dont mean the fact that it has 8 or so zones that is crap frankly, but is your picture seeming a bit dim vs regular modes?

G9 HDR Question

So I've been monitor shopping a while, and have finally decided that I want to venture into UW territory. While I originally planned to spend around 800 on a monitor, I find it odd that rtings reviewed some of the cheaper UW options quite a bit higher than others, particularly the G34WQC and the VG34VQL1B. The only thing is, even the Asus seems to review quite a bit better than the Gigabyte, although I keep reading about the black smearing being a huge issue (that I'm guessing hasn't been fixed). 

Then, I also read that since both are VA panels, they may both have bad ghosting problems, which also sounds pretty lame. Again, both these panels have quite better scores on rtings over higher priced IPS UW monitors, like the LG 34GP83A-B. This mainly seems to be due to things like contrast ratio, which is pretty relevant to me seeing as I will use this in a room that is very dark most of the time. But, despite the lower contrast ratio and higher price, should I still be looking at this LG over the Gigabyte and Asus?

To be honest, the Asus seemed like a great find for the price, until I heard about the smearing. Then, the Gigabyte seemed like a close second (rtings score wise), but without the smearing. Now, it seems they may both be bad options due to ghosting, and I need to step up to LG. Although, I would prefer decent HDR and contrast, and apparently I may not find that with the LG. Can anyone vouch for any of these three monitors, or recommend a better one at around 800 or less? Really, if it can do 120hz and have G-sync support at a minimum, then I'm really looking for decent picture/hdr.

\*This monitor is to use at my desk, alongside my LG 55inch CX that I use for some games across the room from me. My backup choice if I can't find a decent UW for me is the Asus Rog Strix XG27UQ (4k 144hz 27inch IPS), but I'd much rather experience what the ultrawide experience is all about since I already have a nice 4k display

I will be plugging one monitor (main one, 3440\*1440 120hz) in via HDMI and that should work just fine (I hope).

What can I do via USB C (no thunderbolt) for the second monitor - would I be capped at 60hz? Can I even get up to 2560\*1080?
