It feels like an obvious thing to say but these aren't going to be ideal if you want to block out the sound that's going on around you. For example when I'm on a train or a plane then I just like to block out all the noise that's going on around me and that's when I'll use my in-ear phones so it's likely that owning something like this is going to be in addition to in-ear phones as well. I was wearing these at the kitchen table the other day and my mum told me to turn my music down but when I looked at the volume I was only at about 30 or 40 percent so my mum could hear quite a lot of my music so maybe these wouldn't be ideal in certain situations

 The open run Pros have their 9th generation bone conduction technology where the Aeropex's or open runs have their 8th generation. These also have a 10 hour battery life versus 8 hours. These also are going to be a little bit smaller 20% I believe but they actually have larger buttons and they also have the quick charge feature. So these open run Pros are finally some bone conduction headphones I actually enjoy using because they actually sound pretty decent

 These use Bluetooth 5.1 and they also do have multi-device pairing that you can enable in the Shock smartphone app and I've used these with my iPhone as well as the new Garmin Venue 2 Plus with no connectivity issues at all. Battery life is rated at 10 hours on these which is pretty darn solid and they also do have a quick charge feature where you can just charge them for about five minutes and you can get about an hour and a half of playback and they do come with a magnetic charging cable that has USB type A on the other end. And for how these differ from their previous generation Aeropex or what they now just call standard open runs without the Pro

 I could make an Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator joke right here. So they do come with a soft-sided case as well as a magnetic charging cable but honestly I usually just toss these in my bag and I really haven't any issues. And then these are IP55 water resistant meaning that they're dust and water resistant but you probably shouldn't submerge these. I've been using these for the last few weeks and I haven't had any issues with these and one more thing I would mention too is that just because of the design sweat doesn't really collect on these

So within your earbuds sweat can kind of pool in your ear a little bit and kind of collect in there but with these the sweat just kind of runs off. And then for controls these have a button on the left hand side to play pause and skip tracks and then on the right side behind your ear there's going to be dedicated volume controls

 USB-C would be perfectly good for these! Maybe someday there'll be a USB standard magnetic contact connector, but until then, manufacturers should really stick with USB unless there's a *compelling* reason not to.

I've been meaning to try bone-conduction earphones for awhile, and I'm really happy with these. Considering they're not playing directly into my ears, they sound fantastic, and they allow me to hear my surroundings. They also fit really comfortably, and I could easily wear them all day. I did a quick phone call test and confirmed that the microphone is clearly audible (at least in a reasonably quiet environment)

 Well this is the eighth generation of bone conduction technology that they've produced and put into the open run model and it is a very good quality of bone conduction technology that has gone into here. You get plenty of battery life in the open run headphones. They will last on standby mode for up to 10 days and if you are listening to your music you get up to eight hours of listening time. It will take you an hour and a half to charge it from completely flat to fully charged and you can hear through the headphones it will tell you whether the charge is high, medium or low so that you can always find out how much charge you've got left in them and it has a magnetic charging port here that the cable connects onto and then you just plug it into a USB connection to charge it

 But what is the sound quality like when you are wearing these headphones and listening to your music when you're out there on the run? Well first thing to say is if you were wearing in the ear headphones of a similar price range then you would expect those in the ear headphones to have a better sound quality. You're always going to get that when you're listening to the music through your ear canals but having said that is that the most important thing to you when you are out there running? I don't think it is, I think the safety aspect is far more important as long as the quality you're getting through the bone conduction headphones is good enough and for me it certainly is good enough. In the Open Run just like the Aeropex before it you are getting a good quality of sound even though you don't have in the ear headphones you are listening to it through those vibrations against your bones. Now at the start I did say they were almost identical to the Aeropex but not quite and the feature that they've added to the Open Run which is different to the Aeropex before it and I think it's a really good feature is to do with the charging

 Firstly let's look at the specs and what are they made of? Full titanium all the way around the headphones so on the ear loops as well as the band and as you can see you can twist it, turn it which makes for a really good fitting. They only weigh 26 grams and as you can see when you put them on they rest there over your ears and they rest on the cheekbones. A little bit of a gap at the back and I do think that these fit really well and whether you've got a big head or a small head you're not going to notice these headphones on you when you've been running in them for a while and get used to them. Shocks have been around a while they are the leaders in bone conduction headphones and firstly known as aftershocks and now they've dropped the after just to be called shocks

And as you can see there is a bit of slack at the back here which makes it very comfortable to wear so it's not pulling against you. On the headphone itself there's three buttons, a volume rocker with power button, a multi-function button that lets you play, pause, skip, go back a song, or hang up and answer calls. The Open Run Pros have a 10 hour battery life with improved quick charge functionality. Past generations had between 6 to 8 hours of battery life

 I do suggest headphones for this. One other note, because they don't use your ear canal to transfer sound, you can actually use foam earplugs in conjunction with these. This is an area of product design I just have really strong opinions on, but I consider button tactility and response to be extremely important, especially as I'm often skipping songs while in the midst of a hard run and I'm searching for the right one. It works and it has a good click to it, but say 5% of the time, I can't quite tell if I skipped the song or paused the song and I have to wait to see what the music does

 So these are Bluetooth headphones that play audio streaming from like your phone. The open swims are storage based headphones that play MP3 files stored in the internal memory. I actually use these apart from swimming on short runs where I don't want to take my phone with me. So since we know that Shox has the tech built for storage and playback, the thought of a dual mode device is super appealing

 For me, it's just not a question that I'm going to keep using bone conduction headphones. The form factor never needing to deal with earbuds falling out and the ability to hear the rest of the world or block it with earplugs makes them perfect for me.
