The Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition is a great purchase for the value shopper. The screen is almost just as detailed and vivid as the Fire 10, and it comes with the same one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription and customizable parental controls. Some of the other 7.0 inch tablets cost a little less, but their picture quality, camera quality, and screen sensitivity are not nearly as good. The dense foam case of this model also makes it one of the sturdiest cases in our review. It was also the only case in the Fire Kids line that did not muffle the speakers' sound. 
This unit may feel small if your child likes to watch many videos, but it's undoubtedly a good size for younger children who find the Fire 10 too big or cumbersome to handle. It is a little challenging to read some children's books on the smaller screen, and we often found ourselves zooming in and out a bit to see the text properly without squinting. The color choices for the cases are limited to blue, pink, and purple - just like the Fire 8. A more gender-neutral array would be refreshing. We also found that this model was not quite as speedy as the other Amazon tablets. Overall, there is not much else we don't like about the Fire 7, and we'd choose this model over any of the other 7 inch models. For those seeking a bargain, this is a great choice.

So I've been looking at the Lenovo M10 Plus to give you an idea where my head is at. I'm highly technically savvy / competent but that doesn't mean I want to spend several hours hacking at a device to prepare two of them for kids who will definitely destroy them before kindergarten. They have to be just good enough to run ABC Mouse at a non-frustrating speed and resolution, let me watch my own media locally or by subscriptions I already pay for, and not force me into an app ecosystem I don't want a part of.

As noted above, the Fire HD 10 Plus is the same as the standard model, but with 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB, a soft-touch finish, and wireless charging. None of these things are worth the extra cost: the RAM didn’t make an appreciable difference in performance because Amazon’s software is the bottleneck for productivity; the soft-touch finish is slightly grippier, but anyone who puts a case on the tablet won’t even experience it; and the wireless charging is convenient but slow, and finding a charger that’s big enough for the tablet and not awkward to use is a bit of a challenge. (Amazon tells me the Anker stand I tested it with is currently unavailable.)

Both kids appreciated the larger screen and better sound from the 10-inch tablet compared to their older 8-inch models. Also popular was the built-in kickstand on the case that let them put the tablet down when watching a video.  Also, the battery drains quickly (far too quickly to make the AI called Alexa usable). The software is just a tiny bit too sophisticated for the hardware. I deleted most installed apps except that which was relevant for the child and essential to functioning. Setup will also drain the device rapidly as well (about 1% loss of battery per minute), so keep it plugged in

 The tablet itself outside the case seems a bit flimsy, but as it is meant to be in the protected case, I don't see this as an issue at all, just something worth noting. The battery life on the tablet, like anything electronic, is dependent on the app running at the time. That said, the lack of screen saver means that if he opens an app and wanders off, the tablet will sit there and drain all its battery until either it dies, or and adult comes over and finds it. The only way to sleep the tablet is to press the button on the side, something my child doesn't know how to do

. you're not going to find most of these games on your iPhone or an iPad (we've tried) and the BEST part is that there are zero in app purchases and zero apps that ask for the parent to make a profile or sign up for a subscription. When downloading apps on our iPhone or iPad, it seems like you almost always have to pay for a subscription or there are ads that the kids have to watch or they are in the way when they're trying to play. There is none of this on the amazon kids profile

  Cons: -I am not sure when the battery life started dwindling, but the battery isn't what it used to be. This tablet is 2.5 years old now, so I think it is to be expected. My son has a kindle fire that is newer, and his battery lasts about 2x longer
