 It has great tone and can still be quiet. But when you want to rumble you can. Add an external cab and shake the house. It’s very versatile

I just want something that sounds good and can actually handle the low end (I plan on getting a bass to tune to BEAD and Drop B/A at some point). I was looking at the BA210v2, but I’m thinking that might be overkill for my needs. What wattage and speaker size would optimal for my needs?

Amp strictly for home use

 I’ve used it as a speaker to plug in iPods and other devices through the auxiliary input too. If choosing to purchase something new, this appears as good as anything else at $100 or so.

For a small practice amp, this seems fine. I think finding one of the late USA production runs of the Peavey Micro Bass is a much better choice ( and there are plenty out there), but this does have a decent sound as long as it’s kept at low to moderate levels. I’ve used it as a speaker to plug in iPods and other devices through the auxiliary input too. If choosing to purchase something new, this appears as good as anything else at $100 or so

Ehhhh

 We've got the classic Ampeg tone stack with the ultra high and ultra low filter switches. We've got the EQ here it's a three band EQ everything set at 12 noon right now bass mid and treble standard three band EQ. Moving right along we've got an auxiliary input so you can connect your mp3 player your iphone your tablet backing tracks and so forth and that's got both a quarter inch jack and a mini jack input. We've got a balanced line output right here for a DI which we're using to record the signal as we speak and then we've got a effect send and return for those delays reverbed loopers that you might want to engage after particularly if you're using the overdrive effect keep things nice and clean

 Finally we've got a mini jack input for your headphones if you want to practice quietly and we've got a high frequency mute switch to take that horn out if things are getting a bit percussive and a bit too much high end and as I say the foot switch is connected here which takes the overdrive effect in and out. Let's begin with everything set at 12 o'clock nice and flat and neutral this is the amp in its natural setting. So let's bring some of those filter switches and EQ controls into play. I'm going to kick in the ultra low and the ultra high to bring out the bottom end and the top end jack up my bass and roll off a bit of the treble and the mid and we'll hear how that affects the same riff

 So that's a nice addition to the BA series right there. Okay moving on into the main preamp section we've got a master volume right here. We've got the classic Ampeg tone stack with the ultra high and ultra low filter switches. We've got the EQ here it's a three band EQ everything set at 12 noon right now bass mid and treble standard three band EQ

 Okay let's check out a slap tone with similar settings just to see how that brings the amp out. Okay so let's really go for it now with the overdrive kicked in the fat switches in and the mid scooped out and the bass jacked up. Okay so that was the Ampeg BA-210 the flagship of the BA range there are a number of smaller combos and the BA-115 in a similar cabinet size so check those out. So far it’s been everything I’ve needed; I can turn on the -15db button and play loud enough to hear everything clearly, and I am yet to get any noise complaints even in my college apartment. I recently got a new bass, but have read a lot about how a good amp is arguably more important. I really like my current amp, but I’ve been looking into the BA-115v2 and BA-210v2 as upgrade options since they’re from the same series.

It is really a pity that it is not possible to be connected to a 220 VAC power line, it should have incorporated a switching power supply (multi-range power inlet)

There's a new scrambler circuit, which is like an overdrive circuit, give you added gain and grit, and nice control on it too, and you can get quite fuzzy or you can get a little bit dirty with it

 And finally on the clean setting I'm going to put the high frequency mute switch on, so you hear comparison between this sound and now the filter turned on. Also there is the new addition of re-boxing this cab, the cab's now not square and cubic, it's actually like a fold back wedge, so if you're looking for something to sit on stage and not take up too much room in front of everyone next to the drum kit or anything like that, you want something in front of your face, something you can look at and see and be able to feel the sound, not have super volume, this is great.

The next feature on the amp is the ultra-high and ultra-low, which is standard on every Ampeg amp pretty much, it has a 3-band EQ, there's also an auxiliary input with a level, a small jack and a guitar jack size, also there's a line out, which is now pretty much a standard feature on most bass amps, effects loop, and one thing I've added to this also is a high frequency mute, so what it does is cuts out the top end so you can get a nice warm sound without it sounding too harsh. So at the moment I've just got the amps set flat and I'm going to play a clean sound for you

Ampeg BA-210 @ Music Park

I've been looking for a combo amp fairly suitable for gigs because I've been getting tired of schlepping an ampeg 410hlf around. I came up on an ampeg ba210v2 for 175 bucks today! I'm thoroughly impressed by the size, as it is a smidge lighter than my v2 rumble 75 and over three times the wattage. Really curious as to how it would sound with an extension cab, anybody have one of these combos and an extension cab?.

 This practice amp is obsolete. You cannot practice w/ the aux input because the backing tracks will just drown out the bass. Its hard to hear.

 Auxiliary ends and then you have your line out, your direct out along with your send and return and another 3.5 or eighth inch as far as headphone. Then you have your HF mute and your footswitch and your on off power. Now with this, the Ampeg, as you can see, it is kind of a wedge shape so you can kind of sit it at like a monitoring, you know like a monitor type angle if you wanted to do that

 So depending on your load, you can either get 283 watts out of it at 8 or 450 watts at 4 ohms. So like I said, depending on what your load is you're putting on the amplifier, you know you can almost double your output. But as far as this rig, it's a great bass rig. Ampeg is also known for being great quality bass amplifiers
