* Your budget, set at a numeric amount. Saying "cheap," or "money is not a problem" is not an answer people can do much with. 3D printers can cost $100, they can cost $10,000,000, and anywhere in between. A rough idea of what you're looking for is essential to figuring out anything else.
* Your country of residence.
* If you are willing to build the printer from a kit, and what your level of experience is with electronic maintenance and construction if so.
* What you wish to do with the printer.
* Any extenuating circumstances that would restrict you from using machines that would otherwise fit your needs (limited space for the printer, enclosure requirement, must be purchased through educational intermediary, etc).

While this is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be included in your posts, these questions should help paint enough of a picture to get started. Don't be afraid to ask more questions, and never worry about asking too many. The people posting in this thread are here because they want to give advice, and any questions you have answered may be useful to others later on, when they read through this thread looking for answers of their own. Everyone here was new once, so chances are whoever is replying to you has a good idea of how you feel currently.

Additionally, a quick word on print quality: Most FDM/FFF (that is, filament based) printers are capable of approximately the same tolerances and print appearance, as the biggest limiting factor is in the nature of extruded plastic. **Asking if a machine has "good prints," or saying "I don't expect the best quality for $xxx" isn't actually relevant for the most part** with regards to these machines. Should you need additional detail and higher tolerances, you may want to explore SLA, DLP, and other photoresin options, as those *do* offer an increase in overall quality. If you are interested in resin machines, make sure you are aware of [how to use them safely](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DPrinting/wiki/resinprinting#wiki_safety). For these safety reasons we don't usually recommend a resin printer as someone's first printer.

Purchase Advice Megathread - December 2021

Hello and welcome to 3d print passion today i like to show you with the adleri genius pro like already existing in the genius classic version. There is a little back inside with some tools and the usb stick. Some spare parts cables a nozzle, a power cable, and here we see the portal of the 3d printer, and i already can see one two three improvements to the old one, and here we have the printer base the screws are already inside. This will make it much more easier for beginners

 So let's put the portal inside the case and i'd like to show you something where you should take care about it um here there is a little socket and you need to take care about that. It will be correctly fitted in and will not be destroyed. Yeah, let's quickly fit the screws. Let'S start with the difficult part we need to plug in the wires into the sockets one, two, three, that's it! It'S mounted nothing more to do

Artillery Genius Pro - Budget King? Review

Approx. 2 weeks ago I was looking into buying a Dactyl/Manuform and found this sub. This morning I'm surfing $120K metal 3D printer systems. "That escalated quickly."

I'm currently planning on "settling" for an Ender 3 S1. It (literally) seems to be the least expensive option given it may take 5-10 prints with different generator inputs to get it "just right." Or so I've read (here, somewhere).

Two questions:

1. Does this make sense? Suggestions for a better printer? Initial budget is $500 (excluding filament).
2. Can anyone confirm this hobby is less expensive than owning a boat? At least a large one?

Nice printer. Good beginner machine.

Any filament bundled with printers is going to be around 10€/kg in value if you are lucky. Better to buy a fresh roll rather than get confused why old wet filament of the cheapest blend prints like poop and replace your entire extruder trying to diagnose the problem.

First Printer for beginner

Excellent 3D printer for beginners

About 6 or so years ago I got the MP Mini Select V1 as my first printer and liked it a lot but had a lot of issues with it after a couple of months with parts failing and eventually dying. Haven't gotten another printer since then but recently wanted to get back into it as a hobby and to print out parts for my RC trucks. So, I'm currently looking around and having trouble deciding what to get as there are a lot more options now. 

The main few that I've been looking at are the: 

* Artillery Genius (standard and Pro)
* Prusa Mini+
* Ender v2 (or a clone). 

I'm not stuck on these three as my only options, they are just my top contenders right now as I research. Open to recommendations.

So far for the price and print size, I was leaning towards the Artillery Genius Pro. The Prusa Mini+ has been tempting because of the quality, but unsure if the print size will be a hindrance or if I'm overthinking the print size all together, there's also the price difference. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions about the Ender but it's interesting since there is an abundance of modifications and upgrades while being \~$200. The CoreXY type printers have stood out to me as an option, but not sure if that route would be suitable or not, just don't know if my current needs/wants would justify the cost associated. 

**Budget**: \~$300 is preferred but I open to going higher towards around 500 or 600 if the features/quality are justified, and I'm fine with going lower than $300 and getting some quality upgrades. So, there's a decent amount of wiggle room. Chances are I'll probably throw a couple hundred in upgrades over the next year once I get one and get better acquainted with the printer and how it functions. 

**Location**: In the US

**Technical Skill**: Have some experience with building, less with electrical, but ultimately don't mind getting or putting together a kit and learn something new.

**Printing Goals**: Will mostly be printing parts for my 1/10 and 1/24 scale RC trucks and would like to be able to print most parts in a single piece, mainly for the 1/10 scale truck which has a chassis a little under 8 inches. Outside of that, I did pretty deep into hobbies and plan on making things that will be like quality-of-life upgrades, replacement parts for my daughter's toys, gadgets, anything I can think of or find.

**Wants/Needs**:

* One of the first things I'll be doing after getting one setup and sighted in is making it quieter as I'll have this on the other side of my home office. I work remote so would like to keep the noise of it down a little bit.
* Support for multiple types of materials would be nice, but not necessary.
* Would like auto leveling or at least the option to add it on separately.
* Dual extruder would be nice but not necessary. Would at least like the option to upgrade to one later if that's not already a regular capability.

I think one of my main concerns is not knowing what role maximum print size will play with that I'm doing. I guess it ultimately shouldn't be the deciding factor as I can weld pieces together and plan on printing mostly smaller parts, and only a few larger ones like a new body. If I would have to decide between 1) a $150 printer with an 12x12 bed but typically is cheap quality with a lot of issues and little room to upgrade and 2) a $500 printer with something like a 7x7 bed but is built with decent quality materials, more reliable, etc. then I would choose option #2.

Need help deciding on a printer - Beginner(ish)

 The printer comes assembled and ready to go. The direct drive prevents any filament printing problems which makes this printer an even better buy. I would highly recommend this for beginners to learn how to print!  I have already printed so many fun projects and look forward to many more. The price is great for what you get! This is an amazing 3D printer, especially for beginners. It's so easy to use. With the curamaker program, easily download 3D print files and upload them into the printer with a USB drive. The table is really easy to level and the set up is fast
