Known for their excellent PFDs and other river-oriented products, Astral has created a flop that will never float downstream. The Filipe is a flip flop/sandal hybrid that allows you to stretch the bounds of what your summer shoe can do for you with the help of some extra straps that tightly secure them to your feet. While many options offer excellent traction, they can only get you so far when your feet are wet or sweaty. The Filipe's supplemental strap locks your foot down better than many dedicated sandals we've worn, allowing full confidence when spending the day on your SUP or hiking to the crag. Clip these to your harness, and you've got some of the lightest pair of "approach shoes" out there.
Though the versatility of the Filipe kind of means you get two pairs of shoes in one, keep in mind that these aren't a cheap choice. Some of our testers also found the extra strap to be annoying when not in use, and there's always the risk of losing if you are a bit scattered. That said, having the option to transform from a casual flip flop to a secure river-going option is quite handy, and if you don't want to use the straps &#40;but would prefer not to deal with unthreading and removing them&#41;, you can always just push them forward over the top of your foot.

 The quality of the materials is excellent. The outer sole is very grippy. The fit is very narrow. From the pair I got the only way these will fit comfortably is if you have narrow feet

Good quality but returned

 My toes were slightly over the edge when pushed all the way forward.  I bought these as potential camp shoes when backpacking. The slipping strap and the fact that they're 418 grams per pair made them unattractive for that use, however. Without reliable retention I wouldn't use them, for instance to avoid getting my boots wet on a stream crossing, and they save no weight compared with my Teva Hurricane Drifts, which *do* stay on my feet

 They do run at least a size small in length in my experience unless your foot doesn't lengthen at all when weight bearing. The unsolvable fitment issue for me is the toe crest ridge location relative to the toe post, it makes my forefoot pad ride on the ridge which would blister with any significant wear. More arch, no toe crest ridge, more texture to resist slippage when wet and these would be amazing.

These are really comfortable and great for short hikes and walks. They look and feel great! I would have gave them a 5 star review if not for the band that holds the strap in place. I think a better more durable material should have been used. Perhaps some sort of leather or synthetic material

Not without it's flaws.

 I liked them and they were comfortable.. they will be a good addition to my pack for light weight and decent camp shoes and such.
