 Um And that's kind of it for this board there's really not that much else to cover here I mean you've got your you know, uh solid little four like yeah It's a solid four phase right like the thing is just because it's a four phase doesn't necessarily mean it's weak Because this four phase got 90 amps worth of power stages in each of its phases now doesn't work like that Does not work like that but you get the idea right like each of the phases here is really like compared to Say like a b450 four phase motherboard like each of the phases here can deliver like twice as much current as what a four phase as one phase on a on a b450 board could do so There's nothing really like I don't really see a massive issue with it and actually asus for the like what you will notice with asus boards and i'm not sure it's that i'll like i've not checked the competing z390 boards for this but um At the high end at least where you'll see the the whole asus doesn't like using a lot of phases is like well, you'll see the effect of that really well is just how many input filtering capacitors asus ends up using because Basically, you get a bunch more input ripple with lower phase counts and here they do have one bulk capacitor per phase but uh I think four is actually a pretty normal configuration though There might be other z390 boards that are on like three with you know, like six phase or 12 phase vrm configurations in this price range so that's something to that's something that i'm i will be you know checking but Yeah on the high end you basically see asus use a lot more bulk capacitors on the input to compensate for the low phase account um Anyway, that's it like solid little four phase T topology memory configuration single phase memory power, which is standard right? Like only the really high end boards go for two phase memory power Um rather interesting multilayer ceramic capacitor configuration right with the ones like this makes a lot more sense in my opinion than just jamming them All inside the cpu socket because the thing is you actually have v-core pins that are like in this area of the socket Or this area. I can't remember. It's been a while since i've looked at the socket diagram, but it's like this area you have a bunch of v-core pins, so Because the the connection is basically like they're that that would all be v-core connections And so you want some capacitors in the socket itself and you also want some You know on on the outer edge because then the pins that are on the outer edge of the socket get their own little set Of multilayer ceramics nearby as well So yeah, I can't wait to to to basically test this board because it's going to be interesting because honestly for like I was Kind of expecting a lot worse um and it's not actually Well, and it's actually no I didn't like the thing is I looked up the specs of the vrm ahead of time but i'm i'm interested to see how this actually performs because uh um Well, yeah, i'm just interested.  It works better, but on the Gene It's incredibly stupid. I have no idea why this waste of PCB space is on that motherboard Then above that we have a power switch, which is a nice little addition if you're testing your motherboard you know if you're just doing like a Pre-build test on just on top of the motherboard box or something like that So yeah, that's nice because you don't have to fiddle around with trying to short the the front panel header right To get the board to start so I'm actually like for for test bench use. This should favor a four by eight setup Um, or like a four by four um And I can test you know, I can i'm going to be testing two by eight four by eight two by sixteen Um, and we'll see which one of those works best for this motherboard Because I do believe they also use this memory configuration on some of the higher end boards So it's just a like i'm i'm interested to see how it does in terms of memory overclocking But it is a t topology. So I expect the highest frequencies with four by eight Um, because that's just what t topology tends to fail like that's what t topology configurations should favor um so Yeah, we'll see how that does

mobo PCB Breakdown: ASUS Prime Z390-A // Same VRM as Z390 Strix -F and -E

 Traditionally on most standard Z390 boards like the Dash A or any other Z390 motherboard when you begin to use multiple GPU configurations or let's say a GPU and two M.2 SSDs you'll begin to effectively run out of PCIe bandwidth but with the PCIe bridge we can actually run far more concurrent PCIe connections so that if you're looking to be able to use let's say U.2 and M.2 and multiple PCIe slots and a graphics card slot this board has it available to you

 In terms of their overall aesthetics, they're quite a bit different, but they both look fantastic, and they both, I think, follow actually a pretty similar design convention in terms of being definitely different and not gamer-esque, and having a fresh, clean, modern, and more professional aesthetic. With the Prime series, you've got white, that's the predominant actually color that's present here that's got a bold, fresh, clean feel to it that looks really good, especially if you pair it with other types of white accessories and components. If you're also an RGB enthusiast, it works really well because white actually reflects a lot of the lighting that either comes from the onboard lighting that's featured on the motherboard, as well as actually other RGB-enabled components, whether you're talking things about memory, fans, LED strips, chassis with integrated lighting, or any number of other, of course, RGB accessories. Now, if you're wondering about controlling connectivity for RGB lighting, the board, of course, fully supports ASUS or Async, so any one of the ASUS or enabled products that are out on the market will fully be synchronized and controlled via the motherboard, and it's supported RGB header

 This PCIe bridge actually allows the board to essentially have more flexibility and PCIe bandwidth. What this means that this board has really been tailor-built to be able to support concurrent operation of multiple high-speed ports. Traditionally on most standard Z390 boards like the Dash A or any other Z390 motherboard when you begin to use multiple GPU configurations or let's say a GPU and two M.2 SSDs you'll begin to effectively run out of PCIe bandwidth but with the PCIe bridge we can actually run far more concurrent PCIe connections so that if you're looking to be able to use let's say U

 It fits really, really well, of course, with a wide range of the accessories that are out there in the marketplace that fall under either black, silver, or grays, and it just really screams, I think, for a clean, stylized system. And, of course, if you're somebody that is not into the overall aesthetic vibes using a transparent system, this board is equally really built to perform and not focus in the aesthetics in that regard. But for some users out there that still want to be able to add a little bit of flair to the system, the board does still also feature support for ASUS or Async, just like the Dash A, where it does feature a dedicated header, so, again, you can synchronize it with any number of ASUS or Async enabled products. Now, moving past aesthetics, and really the most important part for these boards, I think is going to be the overall performance design

 You got a bunch of USB 2 headers. Of course the front panel, this is more audio. There's three front fan headers. There's another RGB header up here

 On the front we have two USB 3.1 Gen 1 jacks, microphone and headphone jack, reset and power switch. On the back, of course these are motherboard connectors. We have a PS2, standard USBs, the teal USBs and the type C are 3

0 X4. Now of course those will work with X2 PCIe NVMe drives as well. There's six SATA 6 gig connectors here and then there's just a myriad of other headers. There's USB 3

 It's 95 watts. We've got the EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 SC Ultra Gaming Video Card, 6 gigs DDR5. It's got dual fans on it and it's 125 watt, which is why it requires the additional power connector. We've got an EVGA 500W1 white 80 plus power supply, that's a 500 watt, non-modular
