I wanted to pick this up. This is the Tough Gaming VG1A series It's not exactly a fun model number the VG27AQL1A This is the Tough, but there's also a Strix version and I was driving myself insane Trying to figure out what the difference was between this and the Strix version and I didn't want to buy them both So here we are All right, first up what you should know about this display is it's 27 inches 2560 by 1440 So, you know standard widescreen resolution it is up to 170 Hertz out of the box. It's 144 It'll overclock to 170

It's 144 It'll overclock to 170. It's IPS one millisecond response time 130 percent sRGB G-Sync compatible It's HDR 400 HDR 400 is sort of the lowest end of the HDR. I sort of mockingly call it HD

Checking Out The ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A Monitor

  There seems to be a MAJOR bug with display switching/refresh rates: I am using this for both my PC (DisplayPort cable) and the PS5 (the HDMI cable provided with it which should be a upscaled 1080p/60Hz output). For a couple of days, I had a feeling something was off with CSGO -- but was not sure exactly what. It turns out that the refresh rate for my PC's screen had been capped at 120 Hz probably due to the HDMI/PS5 plugged in. When I turned off the PS5, it resets back to 170Hz for the PC as advertised

  Original monitor review: Received the monitor the following day, no issues/dead pixels here (knock on wood). It's true, 170/144+Hz changes everything! I am upgrading from a 60 Hz TN panel, so this feels great to me and it was exactly what I was looking for in a new monitor. If the price gets discounted by $50-ish at any point, I think this would be an amazing deal.  If you're getting this for CSGO, this bad boy reduced my "reaction time" from 200-220ms on human benchmark site down to 180ms consistently

 It turns out that the refresh rate for my PC's screen had been capped at 120 Hz probably due to the HDMI/PS5 plugged in. When I turned off the PS5, it resets back to 170Hz for the PC as advertised. In game, this wasn't something I noticed immediately -- but I DID think something was "off" and I was slower in some clutch situations.

TL;DR: If you are using both DisplayPort + HDMI cables at the same time, please check if you are getting the highest 170Hz for the DisplayPort if you care about that -- you might not be, mine was capped at 120Hz instead. Turning off the HDMI source worked for me. BUG/Quirk with refresh rates!! Please check if this might bother you...

 The TUF boasts a respectable 170Hz frame rate, and both FreeSync and G-Sync support means compatibility with new AMD or Nvidia graphics cards. However, like most monitors, the G-Sync compatibility feature only works over a DisplayPort connection. When playing video games, a fast response time is important for the clearest image without distracting blur. The TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A has great response times at its max refresh rate

This monitor is the successor to the very popular TUF Gaming VG27AQ, but with a brighter display, much wider gamut, and slightly higher max refresh rate.  If you want to take full advantage of this monitor and display vivid colors in things like high dynamic range or HDR games, then the VG27AQL1A is a good choice. It has great coverage of the commonly used DCI-P3 color space, but only okay coverage of the wider REC2020 color space. A high refresh rate is important for gaming. It allows the image to be drawn on the screen faster, which makes it more responsive, and if the monitor supports variable refresh rates, then you can get a smooth experience without tearing regardless of the changing frame rate
