Baratza Sette 270 Review: Grind Tests

I hope everyone is doing well today...i am looking for an espresso machine and grinder for my mobile/market coffee shop

 As of right now, I'm leaning towards the Profitec pro 600, Rancilio pro, and the Lucca A53.

although having trouble getting a really fine grind for espresso- just did 2 shots with it on the finest setting, but it didn't choke the machine, and brewed i n the right time=- that should happen up around the 5-7 mark- but it might be the beans I'm using right now- The bag claimed they were roasted about 3 weeks ago- but not getting good crema, and the coffee is quite sour even down at finest setting, so I think maybe the beans are older than claimed for the roast-  The machine is loud- you won't e holding a conversation while it's grinding- and you will wake up your household if you grind beans early- There is very little retention of grind which is good- I think though the grinder isn't grinding as fine as it should- I should be able to smear the beans and see almost a film at a really fine grind, but i can't with this grinder- there is still a pretty fair amount of grit at the finest setting, not a fluffy powder like it should be- i knocked 1 star off for that- I had a Sette 270 a month ago from a different company that ground very fine- but unfortunately had to send back- I know there are shims, but with a new machine, i wouldn't think it would need to be shimmed right away?  Anyways- it is grinding espresso good enough almost, for now, There doesn't 'seem to be' much difference when 'microadjusting', but i can't say for sure without a screen sifting test- Other than the sound, and grind size though it's working fine- Being a straight through design, which is meant to cut down on grind retention, there isn't much that can be done about the sound- and that does work pretty well- hardly any grounds left in the machine when done grinding

(don't need milk frothing abilities. Just wanna grind beans, and produce espresso shots to pour cold milk over)

PS: I'm an absolute coffee novice and have no clue what to look for.

Like that a lot up here. you have the bean hopper that holds about a half a pound of beans and it actually has a lever to open and close. Let me take that out and I'll show you just has little valve that goes around little door which is that's nice

 You know you're taking that out and when you get done, there's about five to six grams of beans left down in there. That's not a lot compared to other machines. I'm going to take the burrs out because I this is very interesting as well. You take the course or the that the coarseness setting up here and you're just take the whole thing around and it's a conical burr

 This one is based on time. So 3 programmable buttons manual button here that if I was to push it and hold it and then stop I get what I want and then it stops I can also change if right now this is the what I'm going to do for a portafilter I can change that on the fly Now if I was a push start it will give me the four point two instead of the four point five it's programmed for. Really nice. Really liked it a lot

The Lagom P64 finally completes my 2022 espresso setup!

 Put the unit back together by carefully sliding the notched top piece back to the top of the body, and pressing the bottom back to the body. Put the screws back in. Attach the hopper, and put a few beans in. Make sure you have a container to catch the grind

 This grinder, has no "chute" - the grinds pouring directly into a container or puck without having to travel through any sort of angled chute.  Now here's the fun part: When I unpacked and put the grinder together, and threw some beans in to grind - it wasn't grinding them - at all - not even on the coarsest setting. I dumped the beans back into their canister, and then took a few, put them in the hopper, and using a flashlight, watched the grinding process.

 Attach the hopper, and put a few beans in. Make sure you have a container to catch the grind. Go ahead and give it a whirl. If it grinds, then you've fixed your problem

Beware: DC Motor in my unit was wired backwards.  Once fixed, it works amazingly well

I bought a $100 electric grinder and I don't regret it because it got me into this hobby. But every day, the teaspoon of fines in my cup reminds me this is temporary. The problem is: I don't know what the difference between a $200, $400, or $600 grinder is. I'll never get into espresso, so I don't know if those $1000+ grinders are even meant for purely drinking pour overs and french press. 

So my question is: For non-espresso drinkers, what is the difference between the price points of these grinders?
