Also on the topic of backpacking sleeping pads… try a Big Agnes insulated air-core or q-core sleeping pad. They are pretty damn comfy. Somewhat pricy though.

Im curious if I'm one of the only people who does this?  It has definitely paid off on the level of my tent and sleeping bag.  Backpacking camp mats, while they are significantly smaller, also dont last as long, and they are also much less comfy and SO MUCH LOUDER, so when my campmat blew some baffles this season, im starting to reconsider the approach and wondering if the trade off is worth it anymore?

I actually enjoy my more expensive backpacking sleeping bag more than the one i had before.  The same goes for my tent--it is so lightweight and so easy to put up and take down, keeps me dry, and can take a beating.  But the inflatable camp mat (exped downmat ul)  It was warm, and comfortable for a camp mat...  but inflatable mats are so noisy and ive been reading the praises of some self inflating car camping mats and it sounds so nice and quiet and comfy, lol.

Does anyone else splurge on gear made for backpacking camping, even though they mostly only do car camping, because the price premium still isnt as bad as paying an additional checked bag charge at the airport every time they fly, uncertain car rental space, and living in a tiny apartment?

Absolutely insulated

 Allows you to kind of sink into the pad and find a firmness that is most comfortable for you. At the end of the night when you are ready the next day to be on your way, open up the deflation valve and the air just rushes out of the pad. Allows you to roll this up and be on your way much more quickly than you will often find with traditional inflatable pads. Big Agnes does include a stuff sack and a field repair kit with each of these pads

 The pad utilizes a double rip stop nylon face fabric, so it maintains the overall light weight construction of the pad, but also does have nice durability and abrasion resistance. The I beam construction here on the vertical baffles gives this pad a full thickness of three and a quarter inches, so a nice thick base. The outer baffles are actually slightly thicker than the inner baffles and that helps to stabilize you on the pad, keeps you on the pad during the night if you are someone who kind of moves around. So a nice feature there as well

 At 21 ounces, this is lightweight. It definitely does not take up much space inside of your pack. The inflation and the deflation valves on this sleeping pad are absolutely terrific. They really are

 You guys are going to see this in use into the future, also into the winter, and I will do a long-term follow-up review of this product. I know that I like it very much, I've enjoyed using it, Susan has enjoyed using it. Overall, it's just a great, very comfortable sleeping pad. If you guys have any questions for us, you know what to do

 I will use this for something else, a ditty bag of some sort, but as a stuff sack for this sleeping pad, it's just too small. It's too much work to get the sleeping pad inside of it. It can be done, but you really have to roll this thing up tight and if you're wearing gloves, that can be extremely difficult to do. My advice is to get rid of this, get a larger stuff sack, maybe a rubber band put around it if you want to save some weight, whatever you want to do, but yeah, I think I would leave this at the house

 If you're a side sleeper like I am, your hip bones do not push into the ground. Incredibly comfortable. I have slept all over the state of North Carolina with this sleeping pad, and I can tell you that the larger baffles on the outside, on the outsides, actually work well. It really does kind of push you into the middle of the sleeping pad, so the outside is bigger, the inside is smaller, and it just kind of slides you in there and kind of keeps you there, and it really does work well in that regards

<div class="md"><p>Ok, before this hits uljerk I’m writing this from my tent at 3am, not sleeping, because I’m uncomfortable.</p>

<p>In my 20s and 30s I seemed to be able to sleep comfortably most places. This decade… not so much. </p>

<p>I have pads from GG thinlite and NightLight, Xped Synmat (wide), thermarest prolites (short and long), to thermarest xlite (full size and 3/4) </p>

<p>It seems narrow pads are not working anymore as well as 3/4 lengths.</p>

<p>I can’t be the only one in this position. Has anybody found a good solution that doesn’t require bringing Thermarests Mondoking?!</p>

<p>What are you guys 40+ using that’s working to not hinder a good nights rest?</p>

 Again I don't recommend pads to sleeping pads to people. I think it's something you have to go out and kind of test it out yourself but this has been working for me for the last four or five trips. It's a very durable type pad. I think it's going to last a long time

 I've never had a pad that comfortable and the pads I've had before have all been 20 inches wide so this is 25 inches and it is a game-changer for me because now my elbows don't roll off the sides on the 20 inch. I've never had a pad like that before and the three and a quarter inch thickness of this pad is amazing. It is absolutely spectacular. The only downside to that is it is 25 ounces in weight so you've got to give a little to get a little in this kind of game of hiking and backpacking and I decided it was worth it for me since I didn't have to pay anything for it to have the 25 inch wide

 I got lucky at an REI grand opening and won this pad from the distributor Big Agnes and have been using it ever since. I've used it on about five different trips and I'm using it now and it is a 25 inch by 72 inch by three and a quarter inches thick. I've never had a pad that comfortable and the pads I've had before have all been 20 inches wide so this is 25 inches and it is a game-changer for me because now my elbows don't roll off the sides on the 20 inch. I've never had a pad like that before and the three and a quarter inch thickness of this pad is amazing
