 It'S definitely a lot lighter than my old tent, which was already pretty light Adam just just about two and a half pounds: anyways, ok, so the first step is to stake four corners of the tent, and here are the stakes that comes with these aren't the lightest. I read that a lot of people swap these out with lighter stakes to a cut a bit of weight, but I don't think I'll make that huge of difference next you'll need two trekking poles which will hold up the tent the biggest complaint. I'Ve read about this tent is actually the need for trekking poles to hold it up. I guess a lot of people like pitching the tent and then going for a short hike somewhere or they like, or they just don't, carry a trekking poles for ultralight backpacking

 I think there definitely be a much larger market for it. The other thing that I've seen or read people do on is that they will um stitch a strip of mosquito netting around the bottom edge, the tête, unless the bugs are super bad. That'S supposed to rest against the ground and keep most of bugs out. So if bugs do become a problem, I do have a few options

 For me, that's not really disadvantage because in the first case I pretty much never do that. Usually by the time I set up the tent I'm done for the day with the second case, I pretty much always carry trekking poles when I go backpacking. So that's also not an issue. Actually, this is an advantage because that means I don't have to carry additional poles for the tent and so does save a bit of weight

Any recommendations on an affordable but not shit quality headlamp for camping / night hiking?

 Since we already hike with hiking poles, this tent fit our needs in its weight and durability. As senior citizens my husband and I decided if we were to continue backpacking and bicycle touring we needed to lighten our loads. I've used this tent alone on week long cycling trips and have used it often with my husband back packing. It's easy for one person to put up and has withstood high winds, heavy rainstorms and ice cold nights

I bought my original Blk Diamond Beta Light Tent in 2004 after researching light weight tents for 3 months. I bought a second identical tent this month. Since we already hike with hiking poles, this tent fit our needs in its weight and durability. As senior citizens my husband and I decided if we were to continue backpacking and bicycle touring we needed to lighten our loads

Great Winter Shelter, all around Tent

NEXT STEPS: gonna pitch this thing and compare to the beta light as soon as I get a dry day. I also have the beta bug shelter and will see if it fits in the new beta light..

 IMO the new beta light is going to be a bit larger in packed volume regardless of which stuffsack you choose due to the fabric change and the inclusion of the bug betting. But the stuff sack that it comes in is much bigger.

\- VOLUME: the stuffsack the new model comes in is much larger in volume and it appears that the silpoly does not pack as small as the silnylon. this is my first silpoly fabric so not sure if stuffing away/compressing down is ok or not (vs folding), but I do think that with a different stuff sack, the new beta light could pack down almost as small as the silnylon version but not quite. IMO the new beta light is going to be a bit larger in packed volume regardless of which stuffsack you choose due to the fabric change and the inclusion of the bug betting. But the stuff sack that it comes in is much bigger

\- WEIGHT: the new silpoly betamid, with the stakes and stuffsack comes in right at 1lb 11oz. On my scale, the silnylon betamid (seamsealed) with stakes and stuffsack comes in at 1lb 9oz. So slightly heavier, due to the bug netting, fabric change, and bigger stuff sack. To be expected I guess

It seems like Gearrx have updated their photos and descriptions for the BD Beta Light.  The photo certainly seems to show a new model of the tent - slightly different shape and colour scheme. Differences from the OG, as per the product description, include 30d silpoly, taped-seams and a perimeter insect mesh.

Weirdly enough, I cannot find any mention of the new tent on any other website. Google Shopping shows that Outdoorplay has it listed, but clicking it will take you to a dead page. Any ideas?

2021 Black Diamond Beta Light?

 It too is well made, but perhaps a little heavy for my tastes. While there are lighter options out there, the Beta Light was reasonably priced and has proven to be a good value. If it looks like it might fit your needs, I would urge you to give it serious consideration.

Depends a bit on your environment. If you tracks are badly lit, I would use a lightweight head lamp. Ran with my hiking/climbing Black Diamond light a couple of times. Works OK, but usually my tracks are pretty well lit already by street lighting
