The Blizzard Black Pearl 88 is a great option for the intermediate to advanced level lady looking for all mountain versatility. The TrueBlend Woodcore is the process of putting stiffer wood in the center of the ski for rigidity and then blending softer wood in the tip and tail to get a more loser and playful feel when you want it.  Really fun, really energetic, really poppy, really playful. Then we ventured off into some more packed powder moguls. They did really well in some chalky stuff. They got a little bit choppy when things got more firm underfoot, but for the most part, they're really maneuverable and nimble through bumps

 They're also 88 underfoot, so they're a good choice for someone who's East Coast and looking to make those short radius turns on a groomer. If you spend more time out West, they might be a little bit narrow. They're not going to have crazy great float through powder, but Blizzard makes the Black Pearls in 97 as well, so that'll give you a little extra flotation if you like the construction of this ski, but you want a little extra width. So I'm a skier who puts a lot of forward pressure into their skis and really likes to rail a carve, so they did really well for me

 I had to hold back a little bit because I tend to really be on the tip on the on the fronts of my skis and the fronts of my boots, so they were a little less stable for me than my go-to daily driver, but I think for someone who puts a little bit less energy into their ski or is working on learning to carve, they're going to be a really nice option for you. The 88s underfoot are going to be really nice for a firmer day or for a firmer snowpack at your mountain. If you're looking to split your time between East and West Coast and you need a ski that's going to hold up better in powder or give you a little extra flotation, the 97s are definitely going to be your daily driver, your go-to. That's a really approachable width where you can still rail carves on groomers and then you can jump in and out of some fluffier snow too

 These skis would be really, really fun for the beginner intermediate to advanced female skier who's looking to spend most of their time on groomers and maybe bounce and weave between bumps and trees. For someone who puts a ton of forward pressure into their ski, they might feel a little bit less stable underfoot for you, but they really rip on groomers and if turning medium radius or short radius turns is your style, then they're going to be really fun for you. They're also 88 underfoot, so they're a good choice for someone who's East Coast and looking to make those short radius turns on a groomer. If you spend more time out West, they might be a little bit narrow

 You know, so basically you've got quite a nice soft tip. So when you're hitting the bumps and in that sort of variable terrain, it handles everything. It just sucks it up, but yet you've got the power in the ski as well. Really grippy on piste

It's got a Titanall plate running through it and Blizzard with the core, the wood core, they've got the stringers running through, but they don't run the stringers all the way down

 It's got two layers of titanal going throughout the entire ski, which makes it very stiff and you got to push the ski to bend it. They just felt super stable on firm groomer snow. I was arcing huge turns, really stable in the tip. Felt really secure on this ski

 It's super forgiving, responsive, has the construction to really enhance whatever type of skiing that calls to you. If you're looking to go into the trees, bumps and just be nimble and quick and just have a lot of fun making snappy turns, they'll take you there. If you want to really lay some carves on a groomer and bring them up to speed, they also enjoy that. So just all around well-rounded balanced ski

Honestly, I’ve only been on the mountain with these once so far. But I already know that I love them. They pretty much turn for you!

  Table of Contents Hardpack Performance The Brahma made its name as a frontside beast, and despite a laundry list of changes, the retooled 2021 model is still a fantastic performer on-piste. It has great edge grip thanks to the generous camber underfoot, only a small amount of tip rocker, and a mostly flat tail (it’s only slightly raised at the end). All in all, you feel like you’re utilizing nearly the full length as you roll it over into a wide and fast turn, and the power seems to always be on tap with two sheets of metal, a carbon-heavy tip, and a well-sorted wood core. It’s the kind of ski that's locked in in just about any type of firm conditions, from ice to refrozen snow and corduroy

 And while we haven’t had a chance to really put it to the test, the latest model seems promising, particularly if you avoid going too long (thereby increasing weight and stiffness). Compared to the Blizzard, the Experience is undeniably fast but can’t match its edge grip. On the other hand, the Rossignol has more pop and energy that translate to more fun all over the mountain (we consider the Brahma decidedly frontside-oriented). Neither ski excels in soft snow, but the Experience is easier to manage and flick around thanks to its lighter weight (for more information, see our in-depth Experience 88 Ti review)

 Our testing was cut short due to COVID-19, but what stood out is the Brahma remains a highly capable ski that’s most at home on hardpack and at high speed. It’s not a true all-rounder but should be towards the top of the list for advanced and expert East Coast riders and those that primarily stay on trail.  The only thing that could make this bluebird day better was the new Blizzard Black Pearls. These skis are a mainstay for the brand, and the 2023 version is no exception.

The Blizzard Black Pearls are a great all-around option. If you ski the full season and are looking for an all-mountain ski that can handle the occasional moguls and powder days, definitely add the Black Pearl 88s to your shortlist.

I’ve never owned any previous models of Blizzard’s Black Pearl. But I did demo a pair 4-5 years back, so I have a baseline idea of how this ski rides.

Bottom line: The Black Pearls just feel good. You can charge hard on them, sure; but at other times (like in powder), they feel nimble and light. The rocker-camber-rocker profile is great for making quick turns, and the skis handled well while navigating bumps.
