 Had I only have known one thing I didn't make any wrong assumptions about were the boss encounters. I knew they'd be tough, but in some cases I didn't really know how tough it would be. Some of the bosses I managed to down on my first attempt, although having said that, I don't think I could do the same thing again if I tried. Other bosses beat me so many times and even now knowing the move set and timing, I still feel like they give me another kicking if I gave them the chance

The boss fights, of course, each have their own mechanics and systems you'll need to figure out under pressure. Each boss has different phases during the fight too, so just when you get uncomfortable, the game changes things up on you, but that feeling of overcoming a boss that's been grinding your face into the floor for hours cannot be overstated

 The game has an incredibly steep learning curve from the different enemy types you'll face to making use of your chosen weapons, move set properly, and pulling off the timing of dodgers, and the parry system, which can be infuriating when you first start the game. Learning your way around the different areas can be difficult all on its own, and remembering where different items are will be tough, and that's without the ever increasing challenge you'll face from the enemies you'll meet along the way. One example of a very slight frustration I felt in hindsight is that if you want to use the magic system in the game, it's right there for the taking if you know where to look, but as a new player, you're very unlikely to be able to wrap your head around the magic system at all on your first playthrough, and you may not even notice. It's an option until pretty late on in your game, and by the time you do figure a few things out, your character won't be built with that in mind, so you're unlikely to make the most of it

 Each and every weapon has its own move set and playstyle. If you're a veteran of the game, then I'm preaching to the choir here, but I can't overstate how awesome the weapons are and how interesting each one is to play around with using the weapon's trick ability to change the moveset, the timing, damage, and feel of each and combining weapon switch midway through attack combinations is so satisfying when you land a perfect shot. The final assumption I made was to do with the story setting The Obsession with blood. Weirdly, I made an assumption that this was a cheap attempt at making the game more shocking

The downside is, ammo is limited, so don't think you can get too carried away. There's also dodging, which makes you invulnerable for a short period of time

 A saw that turns into a spear, an axe that turns into a halberd, a sword that turns into a hammer (no, seriously) and so on. There are a multitude of combos and attack patterns for each weapon, and figuring out your favorite and learning its every poke and slice is a pleasure.  Granted the road TO the boss was harrowing and very difficult a lot of the time, but I would have preferred the bosses having a bit more of a challenge. I have completed both Dark Souls and Dark Souls II so I probably do have more practice than new players, but even so. Killing a Souls game boss on the first attempt is, to me, a bit of a letdown. Some bosses have gimmicks instead of brutal attacks, but those tend to be easy to figure out too

I love the new parry system, your fire arm you can shoot at your enemies and if timed correctly will stun them, allowing you to follow up with a large visceral attack!  I recommended this game to several friends and acquaintances when I first got the game with only a couple of hours behind me. Today I am towards the end of the game, not in NG+ yet and I would still recommend this game to anybody who asks. It was worth the $59 I chose to buy it for and it would be worth a price of $59 still

so you better learn to parry quickly if you want to keep your sanity.  I think that Bloodborne is tougher than Dark Souls, but only because there's so many creatures that can one shot you even at full health. Also you have to do a lot more farming in Bloodborne for a lot more items than just souls or shards. However, Bloodborne seems much shorter to me than Dark Souls, and to me Dark Souls feels more rewarding after a tough victory

..so you better learn to parry quickly if you want to keep your sanity.  I think that Bloodborne is tougher than Dark Souls, but only because there's so many creatures that can one shot you even at full health
