 The Thermal Craft does do a pretty good job of keeping things hot, but warming up with hot water is what I do on the prison brewer I have at home and is what I would recommend to make sure that you get a couple of hours of good hot coffee out of the carafe. Second thing is to note is when you switch between the filters the you can use a number four cone filter or a 10 to 12 cup basket filter a flat bottom filter. You do have to pull out the insert you know to remove the cone insert from here in order to go to flat bottom filters. But another thing to note is and I actually missed this the first couple of times that I did

 I just like to slowly, slowly, slowly rotate it until right about when your brew is over your bloom is over. You rotate it back and then you want to rotate that back into the center just so that the handle is nice and lined up. But during your bloom, just rotating it from here and over, I find that it makes a much flatter bed, which means that you're getting a better extraction. You're getting better tasting coffee and you're getting more out of the coffee that you bought because you buy nice coffee and you're brewing it at home with you know, a really high-end brewer

 There's no hot plate on the thermocraft bottle, so I would recommend. you don't have to use boiling water, you don't have to use water out of a kettle, but if you do have a you know source of hot water, even just hot water from your sink as hot as you can get it, fill this up about five minutes before you're ready to brew and that way you can, you know, make sure that your coffee is not going to cool down too fast because you have no hot plate. Breville Precision Brewer Tips and Tricks

 You can literally taste the under-extraction. Switch over to the cone and it’s less of a problem. But then if you brew over 6 cups you will get coffee that blooms all over the shower head and leaves soggy coffee grounds stuck on it. This is using a 1:14 ratio and normal drip grind setting on a Baratza grinder

 For the average user maybe this doesn’t matter. But to someone who measures their coffee and cares enough to spend $300 this is a big deal. You can literally taste the under-extraction. Switch over to the cone and it’s less of a problem

  Carafe stays hot, which seems to be a common concern for people who like to let their coffee sit around instead of drink it. ;) But better still it actually pours drip free. My Bonavita carafe drove me nuts with this. The lid does not seem to be able to be taken apart so cleaning is kind of impossible

  Again, it makes great coffee, but for $300, I want it to make great coffee and not incite me to shake my fist in the air at Breville.

  Coffee tastes fine but does not stay warm in the carafe. We’re not fanatics about coffee temps, but it’s cold after only a few hours.  There are a few pieces which are impossible to clean properly. We rinse the carafe lid but there’s no way to get inside to clean it

Is it worth the price?

Didn't last a year before it broke.

             Choose the "my brew" setting to tweak coffee brewing parameters. I also ran trials with my defacto whole bean coffee, Costco Kirkland Colombian Supremo. Additionally I selected the Precision's "Gold" brewing mode unless otherwise noted. Both the Bonavita Connoisseur and Breville Precision took about 6 and a half minutes to brew my test pots of joe

3 percent too. Both numbers were spot on, dead center of the ideal spread. Smooth and drinkable, this brew had much better flavor too. &nbsp; If you tend to linger over your pots, you'll appreciate the Precision's thermal carafe

 Additionally I selected the Precision's "Gold" brewing mode unless otherwise noted. Both the Bonavita Connoisseur and Breville Precision took about 6 and a half minutes to brew my test pots of joe. The Connoisseur's average time (6 minutes, 25 seconds) was a tad shorter than the Precision (6 minutes, 35 seconds). The older Bonavita BV1900TS powered through the same task in just 6 minutes or less

 Smooth and drinkable, this brew had much better flavor too. &nbsp; If you tend to linger over your pots, you'll appreciate the Precision's thermal carafe. It consistently kept its contents hot for over three hours. We consider coffee above 150 degrees Fahrenheit (65

Breville Precision Brewer review: Makes drip precisely how you want it

 I don't use paper filters because they weaken the coffee somewhat and "round off the edges" as I put it, meaning it results in blander & less distinctive coffee. Permanent filters give you full flavor & strength, no question. (Granted, I drink my coffee soulfully black & like it very strong.) Yes, there will always be a bit of sludge in the bottom of your cup, but there is a very simple solution for that: don't drink the last gulp

 Coffee is gonna lose a lot of its flavor in that time anyway. (It's better than leaving a glass carafe on a warming plate for that length of time and ending up with burned coffee on the bottom that you have to scour out.) Time is always your enemy when it comes to coffee flavor. But being a little lazy and a slow sipper rather than a gulper, I'll sometimes let it sit in the carafe all day, literally

 It makes the hottest coffee of any machine I've ever had, by far. If I'm making a full pot I usually use the 208 temp to keep it steaming hot for hours; smaller pots, I go with 205 or less. Not that there's a lot of difference. But the highest temp does make it so hot that I have to wait a few minutes before sipping

At long last, a keeper!

 Much better. Not $300 better, but a very good cup of coffee.  The controls for this and the lcd screen all sit on the left side in the rear area. This makes it difficult to read the settings since the font is small and not located closer to the user

Please note this review only reflects the unboxing, two pots of coffee, and trying the 1 cup mode. I am disappointed with this machine overall. Initial setting you are supposed to do a litmus-type test to determine how hard your water is and then set it accordingly. Mine did not come with the litmus like stick, so just left it at the default

First impression is that I don't like it, but now addicted to how wicked fast it is

 As other's have said, not having a removable water reservoir is a bit of a pain, but not a deal breaker. The machine makes very good coffee, but that is only when we can get it to brew.  After running through the initial purging cycle and setting the hardness (we have very hard water but have a reverse osmosis water filter) I loaded the machine up with RO water and coffee and set the timer for a brew the following morning. Much to my chagrin there was no brewed coffee in the morning
