As a single person, the Breville toaster oven is a great buy for me. I bake my bread and pizza in there, and haven't used my regular oven for years.

Every year, my mom gets each of us a single item, up to $500, for Christmas (+ whatever cash is leftover so no punishment for being under budget!).  I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas this year, and would love to hear what people in this group would get.  I’m considering a nice blender (Vitamix?), but we’re also expecting our first child this spring, so would be open to kiddo-related ideas, too!

I have a short list of things to research a little further, have added some new things to our baby registry, and have loved seeing how much some of you love BIFL products that we&#39;ve been enjoying, too! What one thing would you buy for $500 or less?

I don't normally review purchases, but the stated interior dimensions are so wrong that I thought I should as a service to others. The Breville Smart Oven I just purchased arrived on time, undamaged, and ran through one heating cycle perfectly. Quality appears good relative to price. Time will tell how well it performs on different foods and through the years

 It looks for all the world like Breville is WAY overstating the interior dimensions. It would be nice if someone (1) explained this and (2) corrected the postings. In conclusion, the Breville oven I received is one of the largest offered by any manufacturer and appears to be of reasonable quality, so I plan to keep it. But, Breville, please fix your description!

I don't use a veggie steamer or griddle pan ever. I have tried and hated crock pots and instant pots - it just makes all food mushy to me but I also don't eat meat. I prefer to make everything on my stove top.

My diet consists of eggs, avocado, beef, chicken, fish, and loads of green and non starchy vegetables. 

My thoughts are the following:

1. A chef's knife (my wusthoff 6 inch)
2. Sharpening whetstone
3. general purpose pan
4. General purpose pot
5. Veggie steamer insert
6. Flat griddle/skillet
7. Small general purpose pot
8. Baking tray

Any advice would help.

Minimalist Cookware

It's a decent oven but don't for a minute think this will replace your regular airfryer. IT WON'T!

So my old(1970-ish) oven has broken and several repairs have failed. I need suggestions for an oven replacement, such as those I can plug up. I am looking for a portable convection oven that I can simply plug in until we are able to renovate our kitchen. Please help.

 Now I read all the reviews and this was consumer reports rated best toaster oven so we could possibly have just a model that went bad, but dealing with the company’s product support policies, it makes me feel like a misplaced $400 purchase.  We use our toaster oven in place of an oven, we use it to toast, broil, bake, air fry. We have use this toaster oven for almost all our cooking needs, and gradually over one year of ownership, as you can see in the pictures, the toaster oven cooking unevenly. I called Breville’s product support, very nice employee, but could tell by the one hour hold time that their customer support is not getting any support themselves from the company

I own a two Breville items and they have all lasted me 6+ years. I have also heard nothing but good stuff from other people. They are an affordable brand that make quality products, would recommend.

I highly recommend the brand Breville, they make very good quality kitchen items such as coffee makers, panini makers, tea steamers, ect..

 (E.g. roasting vegetables, baking frozen foods, etc.) Temperature control is good, and I can enable convection to better control browning, etc

 The Breville simply can't produce enough sustained output and the food starts to dry out or overcook before it browns.  Baking: Probably the best part of the unit, but mainly for savory stuff. (E.g

 It has convection modes, baking modes, toasting modes, air fryer modes, etc, etc. And I'm removing a star because it really doesn't do anything all that well. Here's my run-down of some of the modes I've played with:  Toasting: Starting here -- since I replaced a toaster with this unit -- I find the results to be disappointing at best. Toasting is incredibly slow and I feel that I can never quite get a good enough level of brownness
