Shorter than advertised but good pan

  The other reason for only 4 stars is a complaint about all "new" cast iron pieces, even those made by Lodge. Many brands of the "old" cast iron cookware was machined on the inside cooking surface so it started out smooth and even. While I understand that extra steps, especially if they must be done by humans, add to the overall cost - many of us would gladly pay more for products that have been machined smooth on the inside.  I seasoned this pan several times before baking in it

 The bread took longer to bake than it would have on a stone, but the end product was very good.  I know the time would have been shortened if I'd preheated the pan in the oven and plopped the loaf into an already hot pan. I'll try that method next time. I plan to try baking the bread on the cast iron pizza pan too

  Because I was worried about temperature shock damaging the loaf pan, I put it into a cold oven after a letting it sit for half an hour. I set the oven at 450 with a pan on the bottom shelf and added a little water to the bottom shelf pan once the oven was hot.  I decided to order another one so I can bake 2 loaves at a time! My first one is great.  The new one though, seems to have formed wrong. It looked fine coming out of the box, so there was no way to notice it before now, but after sitting in my kitchen (still unused) for a couple days, it has cracked. I will be sending it back to be replaced

Looking forward to getting it replaced so I can get back to baking!

When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's no good.

 Otherwise it is a perfect size for my need and it works fine as a cast iron pan.  Advice for those who complain about iron pan rust: It's a matter of proper use and proper care (always dry it and season it) and this is easy to do. And if rust shows up, it's a matter of using a steel wool pad to strip it off, dry it, and season it. Iron cast pans are great heat distributing, affordable and actually last forever with easy proper care

 This is well worth the money though I don't remember what it cost, I think it was like 30 bucks. I left a small video so you can see the coloring of the bread how even it is across it. Like I said, I love it it's great I'd buy it again.

You can't beat cast iron no matter what, not even in bread pans.
