 This replaces kind of replaces how we use a gas grill. It kind of replaces how we used our Blackstone, like this would never work for like, like ballistic barbecue or everyday barbecue or hungry hussy. These guys that need big Blackstones with multiple heat zones and they're always cooking on it. That's what that's not us

I review a lot of pellet grills and smoker but the Camp Chef Woodwind wifi 36 Pellet smoker may be my all time favorite pellet cooker...and that still kinda surprises me.

 Hey guys, today we're performing our BBQ Guys Expert Overview of Camp Chef's Woodwind Wi-Fi 36 inch Pellet Grill. This is a grill you'll want to consider if you want the ease of smoking with a pellet grill, while having the added versatility of being able to slide the heat deflector out of the way for direct flame grilling over wood fire. Let's get to it. We'll be looking into the grill's performance by checking out the thermocouple data

 And the probe with an average temperature the furthest from that average temperature was the top left quadrant, which was about 30 degrees higher. Probably better than most indoor ovens, I'd say that's pretty good. For our high temperature 15 minute preheat and evenness test, the grill was set to high, which is about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. We had Camp Chef's slide to grill heat deflector left covering the fire pot

 At 15 minutes, the woodwind's average cooking grid temperature was around 320 degrees Fahrenheit. This initially sounds low, but with the slide to grill removed from over the fire pot, there's plenty enough heat for searing. At only 15 minutes of preheating for a pellet grill, that's pretty impressive. As for the grill's high temperature evenness test, at 30 minutes the grill's average cooking grid temperature was around 439 degrees Fahrenheit, and the probe with an average the furthest from that temperature was again the top left quadrant, and this time it was about 100 degrees above the grill's average

 For our high temperature 15 minute preheat and evenness test, the grill was set to high, which is about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. We had Camp Chef's slide to grill heat deflector left covering the fire pot. At 15 minutes, the woodwind's average cooking grid temperature was around 320 degrees Fahrenheit. He would be a beginner in the smoking department but would like to get into doing it regularly each week. I’m trying to plan ahead for Christmas and want to get him something that will last being used several times a week and maybe have useful features (wifi?). 

Would love to hear from people who own different brands, how long you’ve had, how your experience has been (customer service and so on).

Hey y'all!  


I'm in Canada.  I just finished a year with a used Vertical Pellet Smoker from Pit Boss (Series 7).  I love the food, hate the format of the smoker and temperature control.  The cleanup on this thing was really tough, the window, no grease pan, etc.  Just made everything much more of a pain.  

I want to start looking at other options that are maybe more friendly.  I'm only looking to this grill as a smoker.  I will not be grilling on it as I have a charcoal bbq and a gas grill.  I'm going to be using this once a week at the most.  So to me, it's more about easy cleanup and price point than anything.  Right now, I'm looking at these models

\- Traeger Pro 575  
\- Camp Chef SPG25  
\- Pit Boss Series II 850

Any opinions?  I like the features of the pitboss but I'm scared of the cleanup... should I be?  Is the temp going to hold fine?  Camp Chef seems to be the best 'middle ground' option, but it doesn't have the wifi controls...
