 The standard carbon frame which is featured on our test bike here is a little heavier though it's still no slouch with a claimed frame weight of 1075 grams. While the frame is impressively light, the stock wheels are not. These tip the scales at 1934 grams which is pretty porky for a cross-country bike. Thanks to the expertly tuned carbon chassis and slender seat post, the Scalpel HT is quite comfortable which has been appreciated on some of the longer exploratory rides I've taken it on

 It's specced with a RockShox CID Select Plus fork, a Shimano SLX drivetrain with Cannondale forged alloy crank arms and a slick one-piece chainring, the Shimano Dior two-piston brakes, a custom wheel set with Dior hubs laced to Stan's No Tubes Crest MK4 rims and Schwalbe 2.25 inch tyres with a racing ray on the front and a racing Ralph on the rear. Confirmed weight for our Cannondale Scalpel HT test bike is 10.6 kilograms

4 inch tires. Geometry on the Scalpel HT is similarly progressive. Our test bike has 100 mil travel fork and a 67 degree head angle but with 110 millimeter travel fork that slackens out to 66.5 degrees

 Now that's with the tyres set up tubeless and weighed without pedals. It's worth noting here that while all of the Scalpel HT models use a carbon frame with the same geometry and the same moulds, the top-end model which is the Scalpel HT Hi-Mod does employ higher modulus carbon fibre and that comes with a claimed frame weight of just 895 grams. The standard carbon frame which is featured on our test bike here is a little heavier though it's still no slouch with a claimed frame weight of 1075 grams. While the frame is impressively light, the stock wheels are not

 If I were racing, there are some courses I'd leave a rigid post on, but for everyday riding, dropper all the way. Thanks for watching everybody. There's a party in the mountains and you're invited.

 Since this is carbon, I wish they'd stood that off a little bit to be able to run the dropper a little bit lower. I don't think most people are going to be able to fit more than a 120 mil dropper on there anyway, which for an XC bike is fine. I do hear some cable rattling there. I wish it was tube and tube, but it's not the end of the world

3 up front. The stock Schwalbe tires are just too sketchy for where I live. It doesn't give me a good feeling to review the bike because the tires don't allow me to push the bike as hard as I need to. Those are very fast tires, they're very light tires and they're great on softer dirt or less chunky stuff than we have but they're not quite strong enough for what I need and they don't quite have the grip that I need to push this bike to review it

 Pretty amazing. Drive train felt good. That XTR derailleur felt great. I love that lefty and that front hub's cool

 I just hate twitchy sketchy XC bikes that are only good for racing and we're going to find which of these this is. After I've been mountain biking a few years my dream bike was a Cannondale V500 I think it was and I was like man that bike's over a thousand dollars. Had the head shock. There's a full suspension

 Cannondale has two scalpels, the HT which stands for party and the full suspension. This is the HT of course because this is hardtail party. Let's get this in the stand so we can take a closer look at it. It's time for a reveal

 Oh I love that thing. I sat on many of them on my showroom floor. Kind of makes me sad people aren't sitting on bikes in showroom floors anymore. Most people don't know the names of the people at their local bike shop
