 It's that easy. Tap three things and you're rolling with no worries about how that affected your image negatively and how to compensate for it. My only complaint about that, and my number five complaint in general, would be that the 120p mode has a 30p base. Unless I'm completely missing something, it appears that when you enable 120p high frame rate mode, it automatically defaults to a 30p base frame rate, meaning it slows your footage down in camera to 25% speed and results in a 29

 Why not give the option to choose 20% down to 24p or 50% down to 60p? There's also no audio in the 120p mode, but I'm used to that and that's not a big issue. What is great, though, is that the quality doesn't drop that much in the 120p mode, as it's still 4K and looks much better than the 1080p 120 that we've seen on previous Canon cameras. Alright, that's it. That's my list

 It doesn't matter what frame rate you choose, it's always a sharp, oversampled image with 10-bit colour and a full frame readout. No crops, no sampling changes, no colour compromises in certain modes. It's just the same great image all the time with a 24p or 60p. Now, as a note, there is a crop mode if you want to engage that by choice, but you're not forced to crop, and it doesn't crop automatically for you when you change frame rates

Canon R3 Review: 10 Things I Love/Hate

I'm a newbie, not professional and English leaner (pls bear my English), but RICH so I'd like you to recommend a great camera for me without worries about budget.

What kind of a camera I need:

1. for videos and photos (my priority is shooting video if I have to chose between of them)
2. mainly shoot my travels.
3. good IBIS (I don't like using a gimbal or tripod)
4. 4K30p 10bit
5. good at low light (I want to shoot in nature at night)
6. weather sealed
7. I don't mind if it has 30min recording limit.
8. flip screen is better but not necessary.
9. lightweight is better but not necessary.

I would appreciate if you leave some recommendations. Thank you :)

Could you please recommend the best camera for a rich man?

 We have a Panasonic s5 It's got a 24 megapixel BSI sensor. And again looking at the two files here again I'd say very similar, but I'd actually give a slight edge to the Panasonic s5 over the Canon EOS r3 We have one more test though the staff at DP review tested this sensor Against a sony a9 mark 2 now that has a stacked CMOS chip very similar to what we find in the Canon EOS r3 And in that regard actually, I'd say the edge goes to the Canon EOS r3 Just slightly again, though I think the main takeaway is although there's slight variations here regardless when testing against cameras in a similar class They seem to get basically the same high ISO performance. That's not bad But again, let's keep in mind that the Sony a1 and z9 are just a little bit faster They're at 200th of a second regardless. I tested that and I was getting no problems at 180th I did try pushing the 200th just to see what happened I'm getting a slight sliver of blackout on the side of the frame now We did touch on flicker reduction with the Canon EOS r3 pre-production camera I mean if you're in mechanical shutter mode You can use their flicker reduction setting and it's always worked well on older cameras It works fine here what I really wanted to play with back home was the HF flicker reduction system Which is for electronic shutter mode now This is a really cool setup Now a lot of cameras on the market let you fine-tune your shutter speed to try to avoid flicker and banding when you're shooting electronic shutter But what the Canon does is automatically scans for it and then sets the appropriate shutter speed for that particular lighting setup It's convenient

 So next we want to take a look at high ISO performance with the Canon EOS r3 Now we decided to our tests at ISO twelve thousand eight hundred because it is a very high value But it's also still something you might practically use in a low-light situation so the first sense that we want to compare it against is the Canon EOS r6 that has a 20 megapixel non Backside illuminated sensor and looking at the results here when you look at the two files I'd actually give a slight edge to the Canon EOS r6, but they're very similar We also wanted to test against a backside illuminated sensor.  Welcome back to peer-reviewed TV viewers it is Chris Nichols here and we're coming to you from inside the house today because first off It's gross outside But also we're playing with the Canon EOS r3 and really focusing on more controlled Testing today things like low-light performance and dynamic range So we want to just see how this camera is Performing for the test that we weren't able to evaluate when we did our pre-production video And if you haven't checked out that video already definitely do because that covers the overview of the camera We're not talking about that today as well. Jordan's been shooting on a Canon EOS r3 for quite a few episodes He's done a lot of extra testing and it's shooting me right now So he'll be on as well to talk about video now I do think it's important to keep in mind a couple things here first off This is Canon's first attempt at a full-frame stacked CMOS chip So we really want to see how it's improved over their older sensors And also keep in mind the EOS r3 is intended to be a lower megapixel high speed action sports wildlife kind of camera having a stacked CMOS chip does give us some benefits when we want to shoot Electronic shutter mode only and there's a lot of reasons you might want to do that now first off this camera has minimal rolling shutter We've already tested that that's nice And so having electronic shutter means you can be silent when you need to It also means you can get faster burst rates if you're shooting wildlife and sports and if you want maximum stability You don't get any shutter shock that could be really nice if you're shooting on a tripod studio and landscape situations We are going to test some strobe work as well later on but primarily what we're talking about right now is what about image quality because Sometimes shooting electronic shutter does have a loss of dynamic range compared to shooting mechanical shutter Let's take a look at that So first off looking at our ISO performance at twelve thousand eight hundred whether shooting electronic or mechanical honestly We couldn't see any real difference at all. Nothing appreciable But when we look at dynamic range shooting mechanical and electronic we push both files heavily You can see here that we do get slightly more dynamic range with the mechanical shutter So that benefit does seem to hold true. However, it is very minor here You can see it's a very minimal difference

Canon R3 Final Review

 I typically use focus points. The R3 autofocus is fast and very accurate except for some uniformly colored surfaces.  Using the Canon RF 24-105mm lens, the image quality surpasses my 1Dx MII even though the R3 sensor has about the same number of pixels.  The R3 uses the same battery as the 1Dx

 Set to single frame, it has a typical electronic shutter sound that can be turning off.  I wear glasses and could not get the eye detection focus to work. I typically use focus points. The R3 autofocus is fast and very accurate except for some uniformly colored surfaces

Impressive Autofocus & Image Quality

8 or 1.4 as well as a 200 F2 or 1.8 and something super wide and awesome. The autofocus and feel of the body is really what won me over

I’m a sports photographer, almost exclusively shooting local high school sports.  My 7D MkI is ready for retirement, so preorders for the R7 are perfectly timed for me. 

1. What’s the “best” place to pre-order from?  Should I go direct from Canon or use a retailer like B&amp;H?

2. I noticed Canon has an extended service program (CarePAK Plus). Has anyone purchased it?  Does the value meet your expectations based on its cost?  Im not usually an “extended warranty” person, but it feels wise to add some additional coverage to a brand new body, I think?

Best way to purchase R7?

  I have yet to dive into the Eye Autofocus in great length, however my initial findings were positive and the feature seemed to work well and follow whatever my eye was tracking in the view finder. My only critique of the new camera is the exclusion of a second CFExpress card slot, which would've been useful for most action shooters as opposed to the included SD Card slot.  Beyond that, Canon definitely hit one out of the park with the R3 and it is intriguing how they will top this technology with future cameras, such as the rumored R1.

I purchased the R3 as an upgrade to my 1DX Mark II, which I have historically used to shoot sports. Upon shooting with the R3, the snappy autofocus is immediately apparent. While the 1DX Mark II was no slouch in this category, the R3 finds and locks focus much more quickly resulting in more keepers. The 30fps is a feature you don't truly appreciate until you fire off a series of bursts

Exceeds Expectations

 Last week I took this camera out to shoot a local high school rivalry football game and this is Texas so we go big for football games. I also wanted to let my good friend Doug Brown who is a professional sports photographer take the R3 out for a spin. While out on the field it became apparent that this camera was not pulling any punches. You would expect great autofocus from a modern camera so how does the R3 one up the autofocus game? By literally letting you control your autofocusing area just by looking where you want to focus

The easiest way to explain this is there's a little yellow circle and as you look to different areas of the actual frame your focus area moves there but then the camera understanding that it's probably a lot better than we are knows how to then detect the area that needs to be focused on like faces and people and subjects. Shooting on the field was an amazing experience
