JPEG RESIZING

 The touch screen allows you to do everything, it allows me to change the shutter speed here, and I can do it by touch, and it changes in real time what it looks like on the screen, so that's really cool, so you can tell if you're overexposed or underexposed to a fairly accurate degree, then I can change my aperture here, my f-stop, so I can move it all the way from 3.5 for this lens to 22, depending on if you're zoomed in and out of course, and then I can also change the ISO speed here, and all of these can be changed by touch, or can be changed with the wheel up here, so you don't have to touch the screen, or if you just need to make a little bit more granular adjustment, you can use the wheel, and there's also an ISO button right on the top here as well, which is kind of nice. Video wise, again, in manual mode you can change all of this, it can go all the way down to a 30 shutter speed, and here you can change your f-stop, so you can change all of that in manual mode for the video, so that's kind of nice too. Now, you can review images obviously, the menu button again is all touch, once you get into the menu, it's all touch screen, there's this quick menu here for when you're in your, whatever shooting mode you're in, you can change everything really quickly here, you can change the size of the images that you're capturing, it allows you to change your white balance, all that good stuff, run the timer, the auto timer, and stuff like that

 So, it's got a nice small form factor, I really like that. It takes the same size lenses as the other Canon line cameras, in the same family I guess, it uses the EF-S mount, and this lens is a 10-55mm lens, and it has image stabilization, you can change it from autofocus to manual focus. The camera, battery, and SD card is all in one spot down on the bottom here. I don't really have the largest hands, and even I find holding on to this at times can be a little bit tricky, so if you had really big hands, your hands would be like that probably holding it, so that's something to keep in mind. But they market this as a smaller body camera, but uses the same size lens as the T5 or T5i, with very similar feature sets I believe to the T5i, maybe just less autofocus points

 So, it has an external mic port, a port for remote shutter, so you can do time lapses, all that good stuff. Audio video out, that's digital, and a HDMI port, mini HDMI, so that's all in there. Lens cap obviously, that's kind of nice. So turn it on, there's a nice switch here, which allows you to take it from off, on and video just like that

  Go get it as soon as possible, before someone else snagged it.  From sensor wise, it is pretty much the same as the famous Rebel T2i.

I am trying to get into photography, so yeah, super beginner and I am looking for a decent entry level camera. I found one on offer for $50, with a couple of lenses, tripod and extra batteries included.

Is it worth it? Is it a decent enough camera to enter the photography field? What should I be on the lookout for in an entry level camera? Is there any decent camera for a beginner under 100 or 150?

Is Canon EOS Rebel SL1 worth it at $50?

  Con: You really lose a lot of quality at a higher ISO, which I have to use often because it doesn't love low light situations regardless of how fast the lens is or ISO(and as someone else pointed out, if you are using manual, the flash goes off constantly even in areas of sufficient light). Additionally, and most annoying is the chromatic aberration I have gotten with an type of contrasting light condition, from full sun to a high light situation at night. Some of this is inevitable and would occur with any camera, however, I find it to be much more sever with this one.  I would not suggest this camera for anyone other than a casual user, as even hobbyist are going to be disappointed with the results

I recently was given the okay to buy a few used digital cameras for our photo program at the high school I work at. I am looking for super affordable, I mean, were talking 200 dollars give or take a bit. Any suggestions? Thank you

 The video capability mostly keeps up with my 18-month old granddaughter as she zips around and that's a significant plus for this camera and it's auto-focusing ability.  The reason I knocked this camera body down from five-stars to four-stars is that the image quality is not as good as I'd have expected. Specifically, the images suffer from a bit more noise than they should have. I do most of my shooting at ISO 200 to ISO 400

 When the images are viewed in Photoshop at 100%, it's clear that a healthy dose of noise reduction needs to be applied. The camera does produce decent image detail and contrast but Canon's 18MP sensors (at least in this camera and the 7D which I previously owned) just fall a little short of what the lenses are capable of putting on the sensor.  Overall, this is a very good camera and if one is not as image-quality obsessed as I tend to be and you don't put any giant lenses on this very small body (such as the 100-400 push pull L zoom lens), then you'll probably be 5-star happy. With smallish lenses, I do recommend this Canon camera body

 Speaking of background blur, Canon has equipped the SL1 with Background Simulation, which gives you a live view preview of what your background blur will probably look like in the finished image. The SL1 can also preview the look of creative filters on the live view screen, like grainy black and white, soft focus, toy camera, and others. Another smart new addition is the SL1's Effect Shot Mode, which captures one unretouched image and one with an effect applied. When it comes to video, there are several features you might not expect to find

 One quick word of warning is that photography during filming will result in dropped frames and you'll hear the shutter click on your video playback. So the Canon Rebel SL1 is a very respectable DSLR with a really good sensor, a complete feature set, impressive HD video capabilities and a very cool new touchscreen. When you look at the big picture, this camera has great features and performance for its price point. And the fact that it's the smallest and lightest DSLR at the time of this video review is just an added bonus

So, I really know very little about cameras but I'm starting to get interested in them. Please excuse any dumb questions because I truly am a beginner. 

I'm looking for something beginner friendly that's good for photography as well as videos for vlogs. Is this something you can buy in one camera? Or would a camcorder be a separate device than something good for photography? 

My budget would be something up to 400 or 500 usd (but cheaper is always better). I'm not sure if something even exists in this realm to fit what I want it for, I know cameras can be thousands. 

I also know a lot of people use their phones instead these days for both photography and filming, but my phone really doesn't have a good camera on it. 

Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks for the help!

I need help choosing a camera (absolute beginner)

 It really is tiny. And light. It's hard to imagine how the workings of an SLR camera can be fit into something so small and lightweight.  Its biggest liability, though, is its size

 The grip just isn't quite big enough to be the right fit. I may be spoiled because normally I shoot with a Canon 6D or 70D, which fit my hands very well, but the SL1 never feels quite right.  But for someone with small hands, or someone who is looking for a tiny SLR, the SL1 is great. Just make sure to try one on for size before purchasing to make sure it is something you can work with comfortably

The Canon Rebel SL1 is a great camera. It pretty much takes the majority of features of a T5i and crams them into a smaller body. Image quality is very good (though possibly not as good as what Nikon offers at this price point), and the camera is very responsive.  Its biggest asset, though, is its size

 If you have the T4i, if you were looking at the T5i and wanted something better, definitely don't look at the Canon SL1. It's not going to be a step up. Even if you have the Canon T3i, you're really not going to want to move to the SL1 except for that compact size. That's going to be the unfortunate part of this camera

 Canon is definitely upping its game a little bit on the autofocus, and you do have full 1080p at 30 frames per second, so that's great to see on that. We don't have a lot of the manual options on audio. It does have a mic input, though, so we are able to actually put a mic inside of that. Now, overall, the quality was very good

 This would be a must-have lens at under $200 for this camera. I wouldn't buy this camera without this lens, and the reason is very simple. The profile is so small in this camera that this is the only lens that's really going to maximize that small profile and get you the results you're looking for in a small and light body.
