 I do work on computers as a day job and I did do my research on specs for this. This printer isn't necessarily a waste of time, but it's not my favorite thing to use. Why?  I remember when I bought an electric toothbrush and before closing the purchase Amazon opened a notice that the merchandise could be shipped in the original packaging and that if I wanted to change it, I should ask them to send it as a gift. But in the purchase of the printer this warning did not appear.  CARTRIDGES  I do not use the printer often, but when I use it I realize that ink consumption is high. I've already changed the printing to economic mode, but the quality is very poor

Some issues

Nice Cheap Printer, But Your Parents Will Not Be Able to Set It Up  I needed a printer, and this printer for about $45 was as well reviewed as $150 printers, and apparently will do everything I need, such printing, copying and scanning. It arrived yesterday, and so I have not had it long enough to speak to reliability, but printing is fast enough and print quality is very good. Where it gets a major "fail" is the Getting Started 1 and Getting Started 2 sheets that come in the box. Good performance but not for technophobes/technically challenged

 The ink will not last long so I have opted for BCH refills to keep up with my printing. Overall, this is not an economical printer. You will spend a great deal of money buying ink. Setup for wifi was challenging as I had to research how to change the characters on the keypad to use uppercase letters and symbols

Small printer, better options elsewhere

 I do not know how long the ink cartridges will last, but always nice to get a few spare cartridges for any printer. Paper loads in the front of this printer and spits out also on the front side. You do not get a USB cord with this printer.

 Print quality is quick and good for black/white print and a bit slower for color prints. Really the only issue I have is the controls are on top of the printer, not the front side like most printer/scanners are now-a-days..

Decent basic all-in-one printer from Canon, I guess

First of all, props to Cannon for producing such a low-priced color printer that allows those on a tight budget to be able to purchase one. However, the price of the ink is more than the price of the printer and you quickly feel like they "got you" by doing that - although they certainly would not be the only printer manufacturer to operate that way. That dynamic forces you to go to third-party ink suppliers for refills, which to this day I don't know if actually damages the printer or shortens its life as the manufacturers like to suggest. And the low price means they had to cut a lot of corners

 All in all, I would wait and save up a little more money to buy a slightly more expensive printer that either uses ink more efficiently or has ink priced less so that the first time you buy ink you've paid more than you did for the machine.

 Ink usage is about normal compared to other machines I've had and photo printing is acceptable. It is noisy if you care about that. I don't. The paper feeder does not hold a lot of sheets, but that is made clear to the buyer in the product description before one purchases so that's fair

It Will Get You Started

 2019): Both ink cartridges were replaced after the original ones was emptied. The color replacement cartridge does not produce any color output. There is only a grayish tint when I print out a colored webpage. I tried cleaning (also deep cleaning), the color ink nozzle, but does not seem to resolve the issue

 Printing quality is acceptable and reasonably fast. Printer makes less noise than the previous Epson model which made a lot of squealing noises prior to printing during start up. Have not tried printing photos or images, but would not expect the quality to compete with photo printers. Mainly using it for printing letters and receipts

I replaced a much older Epson inkjet printer from 2000 when the print head became clogged. This model was easy to install (using the USB cable) to my laptop using Windows 7.
