The best printer for students for printing photos that we've tested is the Canon PIXMA TR4720. It's a budget-priced all-in-one designed for home office use. It prints excellent-looking photos with vibrant, accurate-looking colors that you wouldn't feel uncomfortable framing or putting onto a photo wall.

Because it's marketed as a home office printer, it has a decent array of scanner features, including a high-resolution scanner, an ADF, and built-in OCR. It means that you can also use it to scan a variety of documents, like handwritten notes or copies of textbook pages, and save them as searchable PDFs so you can easily search for keywords or phrases. Also, you can easily print from your phone or tablet thanks to its support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service.

Sadly, it has awful black and color page yields, a poor overall cost-per-print, and very slow print speeds. It's best to watch how often you print to make sure you don't end up paying the cost of the printer in replacement cartridges, and you'll likely want to put aside time waiting for your assignments to print. The Canon PIXMA TR4520 is the older version which performs a bit better, but it's discontinued and difficult to find at a good price. The TR4720's high-quality photos make it an excellent choice for students in photography or graphic design, especially at its price point.

It&#039;s not cheap to operate, but the entry-level Canon Pixma TR4720 prints exceptionally well, making it a good choice for family rooms and home offices.

I did notice while printing a bunch of full-page, color-rich documents that the TR4720 tore through ink tanks at an alarming rate, clearly indicating that this is not your best choice for producing stacks of colorful handouts.

I really wanted to love this great looking printer, but a flawed and frustrated wireless set-up left me no choice to give it three stars. Someone should tell CANON that 'visit the web site' is not a replacement for a thorough and detailed User Manual. A great printer for the home office ...

  Not user friendly at all.  And it doesn't come with a USB cord to connect it directly to the computer.  Lucky I own a cord.  The reason I bought this printer was it only uses 2 ink cartridges, not 5, which can be very expensive

The scan changes the colors also, for example it turns the color from originally black to kinda grey or very light black mixing with tiny rainbow color dots here there. Not good quality on print or scan

 They should make that clear and prominent when purchasing.  It was fine initially but I moved and the "advanced" router I have doesn't broadcast a 2.4ghz signal so the only way to connect is to use a cable (not provided), get a non-advanced router or get a new printer. Or print from my phone - I was able to do that although it took me 30 minutes to an hour to establish that connection
