While this point-and-shoot camera is aimed at vloggers, it also works well as a stills camera, and its compact size makes it incredibly easy to take traveling or on the go. It feels comfortable to use despite its small size, thanks to its small handgrip and intuitive controls.

Like other Canon cameras, it has an incredibly easy-to-use menu system that makes it easy to pick up and start shooting. Its touchscreen can tilt out to help you shoot from different angles, and it also flips up for selfies and vlogs. The camera delivers good overall image quality, although it's not well-suited to shooting in low light because of its smaller sensor. I have a Canon 5D mk III and a bunch of lenses. Everything works great, though I need to send one lens in. However, I don't use this anymore. My 16yo is now interested in photography and I'm excited to share this with him and teach him how to use it. The MkIII is getting a bit old though and I'm wondering if I should update it with a MkIV, a 6D mkII, or even sell EVERYTHING and go Sony full frame mirrorless. There is zero compelling need to spend money on this, but I really hate gear that's not current. The question is, if I sell it all, can I swap to the current best in this class without needing to add any or much money? What would you do in my situation? Thanks.

Thanks for the input everyone! I’ll stick with what I have, I agree that there’s no sense in changing gear at this point. If he sticks with it (teenager and all) and needs 4K video then I’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.</p>

I want to get a small digital camera that I can take everywhere with me (along with my film RF).

Priorities (in order of importance) as follows:

1)Small, comfortable in trouser (preferably) pocket. At most jacket side pocket. Portability and not needing to carry extra stuff for it (batteries not included here)

2)Photography and photo quality more important than video although, taking half decent video would be lovely.

2)b) Colour photo quality &gt; B&amp;W

3) not a fixed wide lens, prefer some variability in focal length.

For the purposes of this discussion and lets say hypothetically, money no object.

So, what is the ultimate canon compact for me.

I wanted to see if any of you have recs for a really powerful point and shoot camera? Or just a tiny camera with a solid retractable lens? I have been considering buying the Sony a7iii or the new Canon, but upon holding them both, realized I am really looking for something small enough to have with me all the time. I think either of these cameras could maybe fit the bill with a small prime lens, but I don't want to be limited to the fixed length. They are both also quite bit more than I would ideally be spending.

Back in like 2009/10/11 I had the canon G9 and then G12 and I absolutely loved them. I felt like they produced higher quality images than the consumer point and shoots of the time (people weren't really using iPhones for everything at this point) but without the bulk of the DSLRs that were becoming popular. And it was small enough to have with me all the time. And I found the little retractable lenses on them to be beautiful.

I am looking for the contemporary version of this. I am not sure if there is even something like this that exists, or if it is just the iPhone 11/12's now. I have not upgraded so haven't tested out the 3 cameras. It is primarily for stills, but passable video quality would be nice.

I would be very grateful for any ideas on cameras or advice! Or if anyone has experience with the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III, as that looks like the most current in this line. Though I don't know how it holds up to its predecessors.

Professional grade point and shoot?

Quality is excellent. Since I'm older, have troubles seeing controls, screen. Got the Canon SL3 REBEL, MUCH EASIER TO USE, REAL VIEWFINDER, LIGHTWEIGHT DSLR.

I have been trying to research info on what kind of camera is good for a beginner. So my question is what is a good camera for both recording a podcast AND taking high quality pictures for beginners? Will the camera be good for blogging also (say we go on an adventure and we want to blog it) or is it recommended to get two different cameras along the road? One for recording and one for photography?
Any info would be appreciated thanks guys!

I don’t know which camera to buy

 But, my 3+ year old phone focuses INSTANTLY. They really missed the ball here. If you are looking into this camera, I suggest looking elsewhere. I'll stick to my Galaxy S9 for 4k video and my Mark ii for everything else

 Sadly, Canon used a different auto focus setup in the iii. Even with the newest firmware it has nothing but issues. Recording video is basically useless. Had to return it
