 The base is cedar, vanilla and rose but they really are much more fainter than in the other versions so it does live up to its name of being sort of fresher and a low version of No. 5. So definitely one to try if you haven't tried it and interesting to compare it to the eau de parfum or the eau pure perfume because it is fresher and lighter it is a little bit more fun and younger. To complement all the No

 5 and I think it is more modern, it's much more simpler. A lot of the heavy notes have been taken away so the Aldehyde and the Ylang Ylang are still the dominant notes. But there's a lovely neroli here so that sort of lemony plant that you get in sort of Mediterranean countries that comes through that makes this a bit fresher and then you get the vanilla and the rose and the mossy woody notes that we know from Chanel all mixed in with those Aldehydes and Ylang Ylang but I really like the fact that neroli is quite strong in this one so it makes it again something you could sort of walk into, spray all over. I think it only comes in a 150ml bottle so quite big so I think the idea is that you do sort of go for this and spray lots of it rather than the parfum or the eau de parfum where you probably only need a few sprays or a few drops

 It's almost like a syrupy version of what you're used to. It's not quite as liquidy, it's a little bit thicker and the smell, the fragrance is much more concentrated. So the main fragrance note that you get in all the versions of Chanel No. 5 is aldehyde which is kind of like a ozone-y, airy type smell

Because I find that the scent in itself does not necessarily smell as distinctly old fashioned (I use the term descriptively I do no mean that it is necessarily negative) as say Chanel no 5. Yes, it smells very spicy, animalic and a bit like Coca Cola but if it had come out today I doubt it would be considered a more mature fragrance. It reads more butch than mature. Not that the two are mutually exclusive

I’m positive this was the real deal however what I didn’t realize was that dabbing perfume and spray perfume do not have the same scent. I was replacing my dabbing bottle of Chanel 5•

Spray smells different

 So the top the note that hits you the most is an aldehyde type smell with lily of the valley and sort of kind of like a floral fragrance underneath but the overall feeling is of more of a powdery fragrance than a floral fragrance. The other keynotes that come out are yang you I can never say this ylang ylang and iris so this is not and the notes in this are not typical of a modern perfume I think this is very typical of an something created in the 80s and things it's similar to would be Chanel Coco and also the Shalimar perfume by Guerlain which isn't a very famous one and I'm sure not that many people recognize it. So who would this fragrance be good for? So I think it's definitely a very classic smell it's not modern and I don't think it's a particularly young smell either which is probably why they brought out and I think it's this number five Otondra and eau de toilette versions of number five to try to appeal to a younger market but I think Chanel number five is probably one of those things that people make their favorite they wear consistently for years and years and years and that's they keep buying it it's not the best seller from Chanel by by a long way it probably just is the most famous because of that Marilyn Monroe quote and because it's been around for so long. If you are buying a gift for someone I think you'd be safer to go with Coco Mademoiselle or Chance I'll leave a link to my review of Coco Mademoiselle and so you can check that out because I think that would be much safer and is liked by more people

When it arrived the color was clear and not the amber shown but I gave it to my wife, anyway. She pointed out the difference but we assumed that maybe Chanel changed the color. WRONG! She's had it for 4 weeks and now the color HAS changed to a light GREEN. I'm not sure what the seller is selling but it certainly isn't what they have pictured and whatever it is certainly isn't worth what they CHARGED for it! Amazon says it is "Not Returnable" but I've tried to contact the seller but Amazon has booted them from the site (which also makes it impossible to "contact" them and that VOIDS Amazon's "A to z" guarantee
