 It seems to me that the back piece of acrylic especially, since it isn’t visible when a book is there could be encased or edged in a material to make it less scratch prone. I should also state mine came with a corner that was chipped. I did end up returning it and am considering other models.

 At this price, the stand needs to come with a protective case with envelopes for holding the pieces of acrylic safely and for storing the wood frame. What seems especially disconcerting is when both acrylic pieces are rubbing against each other, with great potential for scratching. Beautifully made, difficult to store

This is a nice book stand, but the wood is described differently on the outside of the box (native cherry wood) versus in the paper insert (birch plywood).

.) and it is a bible of a book with a huge binding. Leaving it closed on the stand makes it rest at an uneven angle, and will clearly wear out the binding in no time. The solution to this of leaving it on an open page will also wear out the binding

so I guess it's just a matter of time before I have that favorite book rebound with a spiral binding, but this beautiful/functional stand is worth it to me.

This is a beautiful and functional book holder

This was recommended by my favorite food blogger. I was initially put off by the price but decided to take the plunge and try it out. I used it today while baking muffins with my kids and I absolutely loved it! It was so much easier and more efficient to cook while being able to easily see the recipe. Also, the large glass cover protected my cookbook from getting splatters from my little ones who were "helping" me in the kitchen

I bought this product 2 years ago and thought it was decent although not worth the amount of money I paid. After about 6 months of use I noticed that screws would come loose from the plate every single time I used the product - essentially it's worthless. Update: I sent a note to the manufacturer about the product and they responded immediately and sent me a brand new holder within a few days. Excellent customer service and the new product appears to work perfectly well

UPDATED - DO NOT BUY - the screw assembly mechanism is broken making this product worthless!

 Personally, I love that the holder is big enough that it works with any of my cookbooks, and I usually store my holder in the extra space next to our microwave to keep it safe and out of the way when not in use. I suggest figuring out where you’re going to store it before you buy it. Are your counters roomy enough to leave it out? If not, find somewhere else that will work. Yes, you can easily collapse it down, but I find that I use mine more when I keep it assembled and within easy reach

 I was seriously ready to get rid of my holder, figuring it had had a good life and I should get something new, but I decided to give it one last shot and ordered acrylic cleaner and scratch remover from Amazon. I just used it today, and I’m stunned by how GORGEOUS my cookbook holder looks again! I bought the “NOVUS 7100 Plastic Polish Kit - 8 Ounce” set, which includes the NOVUS brand acrylic cleaner, light-scratch remover, and deep-scratch remover; I also purchased a set of microfiber cloths at the same time to use with the cleaner. After going in order through the steps for all three solutions and using the cleaner and heavy-scratch remover a second time, the shield is almost new again! I still have a few scratches, but they are faint. I will reapply the solutions as needed from now on

 I haven’t really used it for supporting my phone, since I usually need to zoom in or keep scrolling for recipe details as I cook or bake. When using the holder to support a tablet or a sheet or two of paper, I try to nestle the tablet/paper into one of the closer slots so that it doesn’t slide while in use.  On to the most important part: maintenance. Your cookbook holder’s shield WILL get scratched over the years, and the scratches WILL build up to a cloudy-looking mess that you can’t read through if you’ve cleaned with soap and water (even carefully, and with gentle soap!)

  Yes, this thing is huge, and it can be cumbersome at times. If you want or need something smaller, you won’t be happy with this one! If you only use your tablet or phone for recipes, you can skip this holder as well; find a smaller one that’s designed for electronic devices.
