I looked up why this was and found that I needed to buy a Corsair Node Pro. I found the Commander Core XT, which I figured did the same thing as the Node Pro but with the fan hub on it as well, so like a 2-in-1, since it had 6 4-pin fan headers and 6 4-pin RGB headers. I ordered the Commander Core XT, got it today, and hooked up my fans to it.

The only controllers that will work properly with mixed fans is the Commander Core and Commander Core XT. Those both have fan detection. For all the other controllers it's not about counting LED for the total. It's about sending one type of signal at a time per lighting channel based on whatever you tell ICUE in lighting setup what is plugged into the controller.
