 Let's see what CRKT thinks.  UPDATE: I've heard from CRKT and at this point they agree to send me a new one! If it all pans out, I'll post a new update. At this point, I'm updating to 2 stars until I have a final verdict.  UPDATE: They sent me a new knife no questions asked

 While this was a pretty significant failure, the customer service was spot on, they owned up to the failure of the blade and sent a new one right away. Updating to three stars since the blade did fail so dramatically, but customer service was excellent. Just can't give four stars to a knife that snapped in half regardless of the service. :)  In the end I can recommend the knife

 It was decently sharp upon arrival but wore down quickly. I touch up the blade with a whetstone after every use to maintain a good edge. It’s a little heavy but if you intend to use it for breaking down thicker material than the weight is a must to hold up to that sort of impact. Overall for the price it’s not bad just watch out for the handle coming loose

 Try hazard orange to spot your blade/sheath quicker if you set it off to the side in the brush. The only complaint is the handle rivets for cordage. The blade is full tang, which means the cord holes are drilled through with rivets built in on either side of the rubber handle. The rivets are fixed poorly however and plastic from the handle molding was gunking up the holes

 The blade (and included sheath) can easily fit inside a typical day pack, cinched to the outside, or carried on the beltloop comfortably. I recommend paracording the blade for an added safety measure (wrist wrap) and to add extra function to the sheath. The Parang style means that although the blade is long enough for almost anything you should be doing with this type of machete, it's actually a bit shorter than typical Latin models. This gives it easier packability and walkability

Typically, I find CRKT offerings to be overengineered and flashy, and thus overpriced. The Halfachance is certainly a bit flashy (It's a Ken Onion piece) but as a mid-range machete, it works better than most of the market. Update: I was wrong about this blade. I’ve been carrying it more and more because I didn’t care about damaging it; because I didn’t really like it, if that makes any sense?

I really wish the blade was much thicker. As hard on woods tools as I am, I can see me breaking it. I just need to break down and get the El Chete from Tops.

What I originally hated about this blade, it’s light build, has turned out to be an EXTREME plus! I really don’t even realize it’s on my belt until I need it. It really is handy.

 But I have also found CRKT's heat treatment to be suspect. I can also say that's definitely the case with this machete. It came out of the box reasonably sharp, but not sharp enough for brush clearing, which is my intended use (blackberries in the Pacific Northwest, specifically). After sharpening a bit, I find the blade will dull quickly and sharpening has become a routine event

 The only downside to the Parangatang is that the handle isn't as comfortable as the CRKT. But until CRKT addresses its heat treat issues, I won't be buying anything else from them - no matter how cool it looks or how comfortable it is to hold. TLDR: find something else unless you just really like sharpening machetes a lot.

Innovative design, but soft and poor edge retention

 Handle gives you good control in your swings and never fells like it gonna jump out, no hot spots from striking or batoning. some small flex in the blade but that is to be expected in a machete.

Great small Machete for the price

 They missed the mark slightly by making the blade way too thin. Just a bit more meat on the blade would have made it 5 stars!! I don't think its even 1/8" thick. the Golok i purchased from gerber was the opposite it was way too thick. to the point of you could injure yourself with the crappy grip

Almost perfect. but....

Received the second one today and when I pulled it out of the box it has a very slight warp to the blade and the handle/tang is slightly angled. Not near as bad as the first one so I’ll just keep this one.

Handle is very comfortable and the blade is sharp. Haven’t had a chance to test much but the grind on the edge looks like it will hold up well.
