 I swear. Why is it so hard to get a waffle iron that does not suck, these days. Instead, I had an old Cook's single flip waffle maker I bought on sale at JC Penney years ago, that lasted forever. Cooked waffles evenly, never gave me any crap until it finally died

  Because of the peeling non-stick coating, I am returning this and trying the single waffle Hamilton Beach 26031.

Cooked waffles evenly, never gave me any crap until it finally died.  0] On this, Right off the bat, one of the non-stick surfaces has a chip or peel in it, and I had only cooked three waffles in it and brushed once with a plastic dish washing brush. Nothing metal

 I find, after I have flipped both sides to get the batter to distribute, I have to rotate it to the halfway point and cook them sideways, to keep it from popping up and open while cooking under pressure and steam escapes.  At settings or 5 to almost 6, the waffles have been too crisp and stiff. I am trying lower temps and figuring out the timing, so I can remove waffles before the "time's up" timer goes off. It seems to cook them too long

  1] The instructions warn you, but there's no excuse for why it should smell like deadly petrochemicals while first warming up, and then, for hours afterwards until you finally cook something in it. The only way to get rid of the stench is to cook some sacrificial waffles and throw them away. The manual claims the deadly smell will "go away". It doesn't

Avoid this: Simpler is better.

The first one I bought had an electrical short. I called Cuisinart and they replaced it promptly. The one they sent me arrived in good order and was working decently but I notice that one set of plates heat more than the other. So you have this strange behavior of one waffle coming out extra crispy and dark and the other slightly softer and less browned

Quality control is hit or miss but when it works it's really nice

I've loved cooking with this and have made waffles at least a couple times a month since buying it, making for a very happy and well-fed family. Cleaning isn't the easiest as you have to work rags or paper towels into all the crevices but that's just how it goes with waffle irons.  Unfortunately, longevity hasn't been great. I've had it for 18 months and it broke at the base where the iron itself connects to the plastic stand

Tested...

 • No batter portion scoop – not a problem for me since the Cuisinart came with one, but had I bought only the Black & Decker model I would have wanted a portion cup. • More compact design – definitely easier to store! • I liked the black plastic exterior – cleaned up easily and did not streak and smudge from the get-go as happened with the stainless steel Cuisinart. • Removable plastic drip plate beneath waffler iron is nice for easier clean-up • No beep notifications. A light tells you when the iron is heated, but nothing to tell you when the waffle is done cooking

 The waffles still tasted great, but it meant that the Black & Decker only cooked 1/3 of the waffles, whereas the Cusinart with the beep signal allowed me better productivity. • Reviews said that this iron needs plenty of oil between each waffle, but I did not have any trouble with sticking at all. • Like I said, neither the Black & Decker, nor the Cuisinart was quick to clean up. And the waffle plates are not removable on either product

 She took all of my information, twice, in fact, because their system had been glitchy all day and the first entry of my info disappeared when she tried to submit it all. When I asked her what I should do with the defunct unit, she said, "Oh, just throw it away." I confirmed with her, "Really, you don't need it back or anything?" But she assured me, "No, unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done with it. Just throw it away

Mixed Feelings

..  I was loathe to skip the waffles, which could still Sort Of flip, and did still heat for the most part, so I made waffles with extreme care expecting an electrical fire any second. I do not recommend this behavior, but I hate wasting food

 Using the recipe for hotel waffles from Yammie's Noshery, mixing it up in my blender, then using this to make two giant waffles at a time. It was perfect! I read in the reviews that sometimes overheating can cause problems with the plastic at the back where the flipping takes place, but I figured I'd be careful, and I was always sure to turn it off and unplug after each session.  I bought this for $70 in Dec. 2019
