DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Crib Worth It Review: Is It Worth It?!

We received this crib in its shipping box about two weeks ago, and as of this afternoon it is finally been put together. Why the delay? The first time we opened the box we found none of the hardware (nuts, bolts, screws etc) had come with the item. Called the manufacturer and they sent over a plastic bag of nuts and bolts. Primed and ready to go, I made it to step #2 in the assembly instructions before I realized that they sent SOME of the hardware but left out all the lock washers

 After I was done I tugged on all the sides and found that even with the bolts fairly snug the pieces moved around a bit. It made me feel uncomfortable that when my baby girl starts to get bigger she could actually move stuff. Once I cranked on the hardware fairly hard though, stuff hung better together and it stopped shifting around. I might regret this later but I would rather have the crib be more secure than less

Some lessons about assembly

 The Kalani crib has a 4-level mattress support and it easily converts from a crib to a toddler bed when your baby gets a little older. We include a toddler guardrail for when you convert the crib and that's not all. This set also converts to a day bed and even a full-size headboard and footboard. This set will grow and change right along with your little one and that's a remarkable value

 He is growing quite rapidly and the mini clip that we had, well, we did a video before so I'm going to link it up top, you can go check it out. But he's out growing the mini clip and just so happened, my wife's friend has a bigger clip she no longer need. We took it. Now, as you can see here, it's just a bunch of parts

 When the baby became taller, here, this board, you can take out the front cover and it's quite easy just unscrew this and unscrew here, one, two, and three. So there's three screws on each side and you can take this front out and then you slide this here by the rails instead. So this way, the baby sleep in the back and he won't roll out, but at the same time, if he wants to get out, he can come around, but only when he reached the taller point. And also, after 2017, when you purchase this clip, this thing does not come with it

 We downloaded it on the cell phone so we're going to follow that instruction instead because we don't have the paper instruction anymore. This is called Konami 4-in-1 Convertible Clip. So it's part of the DaVinci brand. Yeah, so I'm going to go assemble this and then see you in a little bit

 So the baby, when it's much older, it just comes straight out. With the taller board, in case the baby is sleeping, he won't roll and then roll out of it. But when he's much older, then you don't really need this. It just became kind of like a bed so the baby can just come out

 So I didn't like that there wasn't a matching dresser that you could just buy. But I did find this dresser over here from jcpenney.com and I just turned it into like a changing table and I find that the wood matches good enough. The sunlight is hitting it so it looks a little bit lighter than it is but the wood is a fairly close match and then we also are using it as a changing table you can see there on top

 So you can see we have the mattress on the lowest setting because my daughter is really really tall and she has climbed out of it once but it only happened once, it was right after we moved so I think that she was adjusting to the new surroundings. And then other than the chewing, I mean the cribs held up pretty well. There are some scratches and things like that from general use but I found that these crib guards, these are from Trend Lab and I honestly wish we would have put them on a little bit sooner before the chewing incident. We put them on at around 9 months and I wish we would have just put them on when she was about 6 months old

 They've definitely helped save the edges of the crib and it's held up pretty well as far as just general use. You can see in the back here where it's not, you know you're not lifting her in and out on it and that sort of thing that this wood, it looks pretty much brand new back here. There's like one minor scratch but that's probably from moving. So the wood is a little bit soft, the minute that they bite into it, they are going to be able to kind of dig their teeth into it

So the biggest thing I'd say with this crib and then any crib is that you probably want to look into those crib protectors before they get to that stage where they're standing up and able to chew on things. I believe this set was like $20 for the front piece here and $20 for the side piece and it had like a waterproof thing on the underside and so that's been good
